Frank Hasbrouck Bevier: Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism

Hunstanton Lighthouse

Landscape Hunstanton Lighthouse. 16" x 20". Oil on Canvas. 1990. The first of two paintings in this method. I visited Hunstanton in October 1990 and took a series of black and white photographs to use as a basis for a body of work. The lighthouse was there when I lived in Hunstanton as a child. There used to be a way down the cliffs near the lighthouse. An indication of the area's past can be seen on the top of the cliffs near the Lighthouse where you will find the ruins of St Edmund's Chapel which dates back to 1272 and celebrates the apparent visit by St Edmund in 855. The site of the Lighthouse itself is also noteworthy. Beacons or lantern lights have been warning shipping of dangerous sandbanks in the Wash for many hundreds of years and the first Lighthouse was built here in 1666; the current building dates back to 1844.

Interior with Grey Cat

Maureen Grimes Interior with Grey Cat (after Maillol). 24" x 26". Oil on Canvas. 1985. I completed this painting when I lived on Westerlo Street in Albany, New York. The painting is of Maureen Grimes and Misha, her cat. The original drawing was done in pencil based on a Maillol sketch, and later completed in colored pencil, and finally in oils.

At the Window

Suella Bevier At the Window. 24" x 24". Oil on Canvas. 1990. This is a painting of my daughter, Suella, as a child. This was developed from a drawing in colored pencil on paper. I completed this painting and drawing when I lived on Morris Street in Albany, New York.
