Healer Hall

Or

"Dammit How did we end up on ER"

And now for another exciting chapter of Healer Hall!! When you last experienced Healer Hall, Kiyah's dizzy spells resulted in her having to be spending more time in the blasted infirmary, but not as healer as a patient, oh the tremendous injustice of it all. She was forced to remain in the boring infirmary, a good friend of hers, C'san, came to pay a visit. But as Aurian was trying to find out how long exactly that this dizziness had been occurring by threatening, the poor girl with a bunch of oregano.

Then the unthinkable happened, the girl fainted AGAIN! Aurian moved swiftly tossing the bunch of oregano into the air, the oregano flying through the air and landing on Master Snider's head (Ahhhhhh but that is another story.) twisting and managing to catch the girl, only Kiyah is a bit heavier than she thought and Aurian ends up on her rear, still having broken Kiyah's fall… And so begins our next chapter…

Aurian glances up from under Kiyah, "I believe you would be right." She glances at C'san, "Can you please lift her off me and put her on that cot?"

C'san says "Maybe get her on a cot? Did she crack her head again?"

Aurian shakes her head, "Her head landed on my chest, she's fine."

Ayanne gives the healer journeyman a wide-eyed look, much as one would give a watch-wher out in daylight. With that, she tries to ease Kiyah's limp form from Aurian.

C'san nods, lifting her easily enough. "Oooh, she's heavier than she looks. There... that one's empty.

One of the Junior apprentices calls out, "She's been studyin' late, when she was tol' not t'."

Vyren frowns, "Maybe we oughtta put her to bed?"

C'san /tries/ to be very careful... indeed her head doesn't bob that much.

Ayanne hovers over Kiyah, following towards the bed with a hastily snagged blanket.

Aurian gets up and brushes off her pants, "Be careful with her arm, that wound has reopened more than I care to remember." She moves quickly over to the cot, "Ayanne, elevate her legs."

C'san indicates the limp form with a sardonic grin, "Has she always been this stubborn?"

Vyren peers down at the girl worriedly.

Aurian chuckles, "She's been worse actually."

Ayanne nods to Aurian, the blanket under her arm rolled to be placed under the unconscious woman's legs. There are enough blankets at the foot of the cot to cover her well. "Kiyah? Can you hear me?" She asks, looking for a response of any kind.

Aurian starts rummaging about in one of the herb cabinets, "Where are you?"

Ayanne watches the rise and fall of Kiyah's chest, for breathing rate, reaching for her wrist.

C'san joins Vyren, looking over the girl with a fine eye for detail. Sweepriding and healing apparently have something in common, "There, watch that ankle. It's swelling just a bit. I wonder if she turned it on the way down." It's only then that he realizes that things like breathing might be the first things to check yes... yes indeed.

Vyren frowns, "She might've. Looks freshly swollen..."

Aurian pulls out several long reedy looking plants. She makes a quick mash and suddenly the air is filled with a horrible scent. With a hand over her nose Aurian runs to Kiyah, she starts waving the mixture under Kiyah's nose.

The air is filled with the stench, something like a cross between garlic and really moldy garlic.

C'san turns away sharply, covering his nose like he's gotten too near a firestone pit.

Ayanne wrinkles her nose, but does not complain. She continues assessing Kiyah, shaking her head as she does so.

Aurian pinches her nose, and whimpers, "Oh that's terrible..." She keeps the small bowl right under poor Kiyah's nose.

Vyren grimaces, "That /stinks/. No wonder it works."

With a sneeze and a cough, Kiyah begins to open her eyes. She looks ill as more of the scent filters up.

C'san comments dryly, "Another reason not to like healers."

Vyren grins at C'san, "Wouldn't say that too loud in here if I were you."

Ayanne quickly says, her voice low with concern, "Kiyah? Can you hear me?" She has nearly forgotten about the rider and the herder journeyman, and misses C'san's comment.

All the healers are focused on their friend; they look quite upset and concerned.

C'san chuckles, "I already made quite an impression, apparently. Too late now." C'san clears his throat. His liquid-green eyes shadow over in concern despite his light words.

Kiyah nods a bit. She looks a touch pale, but that could be from the scent or the fainting spell.

Aurian wordlessly tosses the mix into a bucket meant for such a purpose. She places the bowl into some water. Before coming back over, she picks up a couple of glows kept in a basket near by.

The scent lessens just a touch.

Ayanne moves out of the way for Aurian, looking in concern for the journeyman or master on duty.

She leans over and holds the glows in front of Kiyah's eyes watching the reaction, moving them a bit. Aurian calls out, "Her eyes are dilated, what does that indicate Ayanne?" She seems to know but is asking the Junior to help with the diagnosis.

Vyren Frowns worriedly, "Wish I knew some healer lore."

Kiyah starts to attempt to get out of the bed, but one of the littler apprentices throws himself across her lap. She yelps, "I'm fine I'm fine."

Ayanne frowns a moment, leaning in to see. "Dilated? Fixed dilated, or in response tot he light?

Aurian says, "They are reacting sluggishly, barely narrowing when the light shines on them."

C'san says with unexpected force that betrays his concern, "You are not... be still!"

Ayanne thinks a moment again, shaking her head. "Concussion?" she tries.

All of Kiyah's various firelizards are crooning nervously. The flutter about getting in the way.

Aurian nods, "Very good, Ayanne. We need a master, or even a journeyman. She's worse off than we thought." makes a face, and tries her best to get Kiyah lying back down again. "C'mon, just lay back, we'll get a master here."

One of the nearby apprentices dashes to find one.

C'san says, "I thought you said she already had..." "Does that mean it's worse than before?"

Aurian glances over, "It means that we all thought she had a mild concussion, when we were wrong."

Ayanne glances u p, remembering that the rider and herder are still there. "Before? Did this happen before?" She looks rather confused, now looking after where the other apprentice had run, eagerly anticipating the Master's arrival.

Aurian seems to be thinking ferociously, "She's been having dizzy spells apparently. We all thought it was just exhaustion now I'm not so sure."

Vyren frowns, "I wonder what it could be..."

C'san nods towards the door, "I've a dragon if you need something right this instant."

"I know the Master is probably on his way but..." Ayanne looks from one to the other, then finally back to Kiyah. "Kiyah, have you hit your head at all? Or eaten something bad? Or..." She tries to grasp at other explanations. "How d'you feel?" She asks, reaching for her hands to see if they're cold and clammy, inspecting her for sweating.

C'san shrugs, realizing idly that it's probably a her not a him. Women are so much better at this.

Kiyah shakes her head and jerks her hands away; "I'm fine. I hit my head the other night when I fell."

Ayanne clutches after Kiyah's hands, but misses them. "Fell? When? Why? How?" So many questions, they'll likely make the girl's head spin.

Kiyah yells, "I'm FINE." She starts to stand then sits back down..."Umm maybe not."

C'san closes his eyes for a moment.

Ayanne places a restraining hand on Kiyah's shoulder. "You fell the other day. You fainted tonight. You show signs of a concussion." She does not mince her words for the older apprentice. "You are not fine."

C'san says, "Dhavoth agrees."

Vyren nods, "As do I!"

Aurian looks furious, her call can be heard echoing in the halls, "Where's that Master?"

Deri enters the waiting area from the Hallway.

Several healers are whirling about the room mainly focusing on a bed that appears to contain Kiyah.

Ayanne swings her head around as the door opens eyes wide and expecting. She crouches near Kiyah, propped up on the bed, with the others around. "Is there a Master out there, following you?"

Sure enough, Master Kant follows the apprentice sent to fetch him, heading straight for the cot. "What's all the ruckus about? Who's on duty?"

Deri raises an eyebrow in confusion and moves out of the way.

Kiyah tries again to get off the bed, she just knows she can do it this time. The girl lurches to her feet.

Aurian crosses straight to Kiyah, and makes the girl get back on the bed. Something can be heard that sounds like, "Or I tell Vytol."

C'san hisses sharply, moving out of the way so that the others can restrain her and the Master can take his spot.

Kiyah sits down with a wail of, "Auriiiiiiiian."

Deri frowns a little and nods to C'san, not sure the rider will remember her from when she was at Benden so many turns ago, 'What's going on?"

Master Kant takes his place at the cot, a stern look to the senior apprentice. "Senior or no, you'll listen to me. Lie there. Be still." And with that, he begins inspecting her. "What can you tell me about what happened?" he asks, directing the question to Aurian.

Dragon Dhavoth bespoke Aurian with < She must not leave> Your head hurts slightly but it fades quickly. You're not even sure you heard the soft voice.

Aurian just turns a deaf ear to Kiyah and glances up at the master. Just as she's about to speak, she looks a like something dropped on her head, she shakes her head and speaks, "Sir, Kiyah fainted. And it's not the first time she's had a dizzy spell."

Vyren glances at the Master, concerned.

Ayanne stands by, or rather hovers by, attention on Kiyah.

Aurian says, "I used Ammoniacum to awaken her. We've elevated her feet, but she seems a bit resistant that she needs care."

Master Kant uses a handy glow tube to take a look at Kiyah's eyes, and makes little Mmmm-hmmming sounds. "Fainted, did she? Hit her head?" To Kiyah he asks, "Been eating right, girl? Taking care of yourself? You need treatment. You fainted." This is accompanied with a scowl.

Aurian says, "Also I tested her eyes with a glow and it would appear that her eyes are dilated."

Kiyah bites her bottom lip, "Its just exhaustion sir."

Master Kant mhh-hmmms, again, nodding to Aurian. "Indeed they are. Indeed they are. Exhaustion, hmmm?" He asks, raising an eyebrow. "Is that what the Healer says, now is it? Only a fool has himself for a healer, you know."

Kiyah tries to stand again but only manages to fall back onto the bed; "I'm fine. "

Deri moves over and taps C'san on the shoulder, "Would you like some klah. C'san, or are you not listening?"

C'san says, "If you try to stand up again I'll have Dhavoth eat you."

Ayanne hmmms. As I don't know what's up with her, I really can't DO anything more...

C'san smiles, "Hello again, Deri. Yes, that would be welcome. I'm afraid my stomach is in knots."

An apprentice calls out, "Don't give the rider the healer klah, he'll end up in a cot..." Another call says, "Take some from the harpers."

Master Kant harumphs. "You are not fine. You will stay here. Where we can watch you." With the word here, the man thumps the cot mattress. His voice clearly states; no arguments will be tolerated.

Deri frowns over at the speaking apprentice, "No one gets sick on my klah." she says and then motions C'san over to the fresh pot simmering on the infirmary hearth, "Why, what's wrong C'san?"

A tall journeyman, who has been following Master Kant, "Sir knowing Kiyah, we might want to have shifts of apprentices keeping an eye on her. " He speaks with a quiet voice.

Another apprentice, tending bandages in a corner, mutters, "Or restrain her..."

C'san has nothing to fear from Deri's klah and so takes some. "I'm just concerned for her. My stomach always does this when I'm worried."

The tall journeyman speaks to the apprentice up to his elbows in bandages, "Coyrin, I do believe you are folding bandages because of a previous demerit. I suggest you keep your mind on your duties."

Master Kant nods quickly. "Aye, aye. We'll start with you." His gesture includes those standing nearby. "Recruit anyone you must. Sleep in shifts. She is not to move." He obviously has very sharp ears, as his next comment is, "And if that doesn't work, tie her into the cot."

Deri chuckles and pat's C'san on the shoulder, "Don't worry, she's in the healer hall, she'll be fine with all us apprentices to take care of her."

Coyrin grumbles, but returns to folding bandages dutifully.

Kiyah folds her arms across her chest petulantly, but she doesn't open her mouth.

Master Kant fixes the apprentices he's indicated with a glare. "Any, and I do mean Any, change in her condition, you are to alert me, or another Master. Have I made myself clear?" Without waiting for agreement, he elaborates. "Assess her periodically for consciousness. For respiration. For heart rate. For any other signs of change."

C'san says "You sure she'll be all right?"

C'san says, "Dhavoth seems quite concerned.. but then, he overreacts to a lot of things."

Ayanne nods quickly, eyes rolling slightly as she tries to remember the list of observations to make, not in any way impertinent.

Deri nods and smiles again, though her eyes are a bit sad, 'She'll be just fine C'san, don't worry about her."

Aurian grins a touch at C'san, "She's here surrounded by a couple hundred healers. She'll be fine."

Already a couple apprentices start setting up a study group to keep themselves alert while they take the first watch.

Vyren excuses himself.

Vyren moves through the door and into the Main Hallway.

C'san takes one more look and a quiet nod, "I'm afraid I need to get back to the Weyr. Does anyone else need a ride?", he realizes that she is indeed in very good hands as no one seems to even notice his offer at first.

Deri shakes her head, "No, though thank you for the offer, you and Dhavoth have a good flight."

Aurian finally glances up at C'san, "Most of us live here. Thank you though. Clear skies."

C'san's eyes go soft, "My thanks, for everything.", he pins Aurian with a delicate smile and a nod and then quickly includes the rest of the room.

C'san moves through the door and into the Main Hallway.

Deri nods and pours herself some klah, "You're welcome C'san." she says softly as the rider leaves, a sad, contemplative look crossing her face.

Aurian blushes for a second before starting to help the arrangement of the room to help make the study group more comfortable.

Ayanne just stands there, hovering nearby. Kiyah's not getting up, not while she's there.

Aurian glances up at the Master, "Sir should we make something to help her sleep a bit?"

Aurian continues speaking to the master, "Perhaps a tea of lavender. It would relax her with out making her sleepy."

Master Kant gives a curt nod to Aurian, "A fine idea, a fine idea. Lavender should be gentle enough, though for that one I would recommend mosstea."

Vorken enters the waiting area from the Hallway.

Vorken walks in, obviously flustered.

The senior apprentice nods and wanders over to the preparation hearth. Aurian begins to boil a small amount of water.

Vorken looks around, finds a cot and sits abruptly.

Aurian raises an eyebrow at Vorken from where she stands waiting for the water to boil.

Vorken notices Aurian's look, "Umm, hi."

Aurian says, "Are you alright, or have you been eating the meatrolls again?"

Vorken's brows come together, "No, I haven't been eating anything. I just, umm, just.." She glances to the water, and removes the small pot from the hearth.

Aurian begins to measure out an amount of Lavender to steep.

Ayanne folds her arms in front of her chest, eyes still on Kiyah. Though they do dart curiously towards Vorken.

"Just...?" Aurian grins at Vorken, "Come on tell me. I don't bite you know." She adds the lavender to the water, "My firelizards do, but I don't."

Vorken looks at her feet, mutters almost so low she can't be heard, "Was talking to Varaaki."

With a tilt of her head, Aurian says, "What?" She looks very concerned.

Ayanne totally ruins the effect of the mutter. "What about Varaaki?" She asks, rather loudly.

A couple of younger apprentices giggle in the corner at that name.

Vorken says "ummmm, I was just, um, talkingtohim."

Aurian raises that eyebrow higher if possible, "Annnnd?"

Deri looks a little confused, 'Who is Varaaki?"

Vorken looks around, furtively, "Umm, an apprentice, and we were, ummm, talking."

Ayanne takes her eyes from Kiyah, trusting the senior apprentice to not move. "About?" Her interest is piqued.

Aurian watches Vorken, "Welll?"

Vorken looks back at her feet, "Telarra. Kind of."

Ayanne frowns, cocking her head to one side. "You were talking about Telara?" She asks. This doesn't quite sum up.

Deri frowns again, "What about Telarra?"

Aurian raises an eyebrow, "What about Telarra?"

Vorken glances at Deri, "Umm, whether he liked her or not..."

Alvar enters the waiting area from the Hallway.

Alvar steps into the infirmary, "Good evenin'..."

Vorken immediately looks back at her feet.

Various apprentices are about the room while Kiyah is being watched by a en masse grouping of healer apprentices.

Ayanne can't resist a little snicker, despite the seriousness of the surroundings. "And does he?"

Vorken continues looking at her feet, "Umm, maybe, but he, ummm, said, umm, I hadniceeyes."

Alvar grins wryly, "Knees? Dear me, apprentices, whatever are you talking about?"

Aurian giggles delightedly.

Kiyah says in annoyance, "Well at least he told the truth."

Deri nods to the Journeyman in greeting, hello sir, can I help you with anything?"

Ayanne can't resist giggling. "He said you have nice eyes?" She repeats. Clearly. Loudly. So even the apprentices studying in the corner, and Coyrin with the bandages, can hear.

Alvar smiles at Deri," NO, thank you..."

Aurian waves to Alvar.

Alvar smiles towards Aurian.

Vorken seems to try to disappear. "yes"

Aurian grins at Vorken, "Well that does sound like something to make you blush."

Alvar raises an eyebrow curiously.

Deri shakes her head a little, has it been so long since she acted like this, "I wouldn't put much store into it, men are a bit fickle when it comes to what they want."

Vorken just sits. Then she looks at Aurian, "Well, /he/ has nice eyes, too!"

With a last stir of the tea, Aurian pours it into a small cup and wanders over to Kiyah, "Drink it. Its good for you." Aurian laughs and grins at Vorken, "Yes he does. But did you tell him that."

Vorken nods, "Yes, I did, but then he didn't say anything."

Ayanne sighs, rather wistfully, maintaining her guard over Kiyah. "Nobody's ever told me that, Vorken."

Kiyah clearly looks like she is preparing to do battle on this one. "I will not."

Deri looks at Kiyah, "Yes you will or I'll hold your nose shut and we will force it down you." Her tone brooks no argument as she stares at the Sr. Apprentice with those silver eyes of hers.

Varaaki enters the waiting area from the Hallway.

Varaaki enters, toting his trusty broom, in search of dirt.

Vorken says "I like your eyes, Ayanne." Seeing Varaaki, she immediately looks at her feet, blushing."

Alvar tsks, "All this talk of the opposite sex when you apprentices should be studying.'

There is a hushed conversation between Aurian and Kiyah, each looking very determined.

Aurian mutters, "... well.... I'll tell Vytol."

Kiyah lets out a wail of, "AURIIAAAAAAN!"

Kiyah does take the tea and sips at it one sip at a time.

Ayanne folds her arms again, glaring at Kiyah. Thin she might be, but she also appears rather strong - turns of hauling around sheep for shearing, perhaps. "You will drink it." But Aurian's threat is better.

Varaaki stops short, noting the congregation. He sees Vorken and his cheeks color a bit.

Vorken looks furtively at Alvar, then Varaaki, then back at her feet.

Aurian watches Kiyah drink the lavender tea.

Deri raises an eyebrow as she stares at the new arrival and then looks at Vorken's increasing blush, "He's what you all are fussing about?" she asks before shaking her head.

The apprentices, who were eagerly listening to the discussion, immediately return to studying.

Alvar scowls, looking from apprentice to apprentice, wondering what on earth's going on..

Vorken tries to disappear.

Varaaki looks about helplessly. "Um... maybe I can sweep in here later..."

Aurian chuckles at Alvar, "You look confused." She starts helping some of the others clean the infirmary.

Alvar chuckles, "I usually am, around a gaggle of apprentices.'

Vorken looks up, "oh, no," then stops abruptly, "Umm, I mean,...." And shuts up, looking back at her feet.

Aurian points to the tea drinking Kiyah, "She fainted."

Alvar blinks, "Did she now. When?"

Ayanne finally finds the time to wink at Vorken, for the complement she'd paid her earlier. Then she returns her attention to Kiyah, lest the young woman decide that she's fit enough to leave.

Again. Varaaki raises his brows and looks at the†prone healer with concern.

Vorken looks at Vara from under her lashes.

Ayanne looks at Kiyah, with narrowed eyes.

Varaaki mutters, more to himself than anyone, "She'll be her own undoing, I swear..." He turns to leave and notices Vorken looking at him, and freezes.

Vorken looks down, blushing.

Kiyah yelps, "It was just exhaustion!"

Varaaki makes an attempt to look busy with his broom.

Vorken shuffles hides.

Deri shakes her head again before opening a book and reading in it. She looks up again to look at her fellow apprentices, snorting a little as she sees the looks going from person to person, "Shells, he's a boy, get over it. Once you become a Journeyman you will see plenty of them." Gee, Deri doesn't seem to be her normally cheerful self lately, matter of fact she seems downright grumpy.

Aurian glances up at Alvar, "Its been a few hours now. A master has ordered her to stay in bed till a better examination can be given"

Alvar nods slowly to Aurian, "Allright, so long as She's being looked after."

Varaaki shuffles over to Deri, eyes avoiding Vorken. "I'm Varaaki... I don't think we've met."

Aurian rubs the back of her neck, "I managed to catch her before she hit the ground, but she has exhibited signs of her concussion being worse than we thought it was."

Vorken shuffles more hides.

Deri arcs up one ebon brow and she nods, "I'm Deri."

Alvar frowns, "I hope she's looked at soon then, it could be serious."

Varaaki forces a wide smile and nods slightly. "Well met."

Vorken looks up at the sound of Vara's voice just in time to see the smile and be entranced.

Aurian nods, "Since she has attempted to get out of bed several times, we've organized ourselves to keep an eye on her in shifts. " She runs a hand through her hair.

Varaaki chuckles a bit. "Are you sure just one person can keep her in bed?" He snickers again, having amused himself, and finds a corner of the infirmary that needs sweeping.

Alvar frowns," She'll stay allrighty."

Deri rolls her eyes at Vorken's expression and shakes her head, "Girl, wake up and smell the klah." she says before nodding to Varaaki, "Well met."

About six apprentices glance over from their huddle at Varaaki, "We'll be here."

Kiyah sighs.

Vorken glances at Deri, looks at Varaaki, then back at her feet.

Deri shakes her head again and goes back to reading her book, it's one of the herbal books from the hall library. "Keep you mind on your studies as much as you do him and you should find it easy to pass the tests for Sr. apprentice."

Varaaki finds a troublesome bit of dust under a cot in the corner and busies himself with it, one eye on his work and one eye on a certain apprentice.

Vorken gives Deri an injured look, then shuffles more hides, sighing. Then she looks up at Varaaki, notices his look, blushes furiously, then shuffles the hides yet /again/.

Vorken sips her klah.

Varaaki continues his cleaning, inching closer with clear apprehension to the area where Vorken is standing.

Finally, Kiyah allows herself to sleep curling up against the blankets on her cot. She may not of fainted because of exhaustion but it didn't hurt.

Vorken finally seems to find the page she was looking for and pulls it out, watching Vara from the corner of her eye.
