I love this guy! He's a terrific NASCAR driver, and a genuinely good guy. I first came to him because I liked his name. Sounds dopey, I know. But his name sounded like a character from a Hemmingway novel. And given that his father was nicknamed "Coo-Coo," I figured "Sterling" was pretty cool. His son is named Steadman, and he races also. Yes, the Marlins are yet another racing family, (Pettys, Earnhardts, Allisons, Waltrips, etc.)
Here he is a long time ago, as the driver for "Ol' Number 14."

In the 2001 season, Sterling was easily the most consistent driver on the track. He was the only driver to stay in the Top 10 in points, (finishing in third place), throughout the entire season. Not even Jeff Gordon did that! (Okay, so Jeff won the BIG BANANA...)
He drives the #40 Coors Light "Silver Bullet" car for Chip Gnassi Racing. He's only been there for a couple of years, but the combination of Gnassi's money and Sterling's skills is a winning one.
He dislikes the aerodynamics package that NASCAR mandates at the super speedways, (Daytona and Talladega), because they compel the cars to go around the track in closely packed groups - a practice which he thinks makes it more dangerous. And he's probably right. But other than that, he's an easy-going kind of guy. (Although, at times, I wish he had bigger stones and would be more aggressive.)
He clearly had the fastest Dodge car last year, and is well placed to equal, if not better, his point total this year.
