A Centre for Cross-Cultural Activities
M-DO is a Canadian multicultural centre dedicated to presenting heritage and cultural diversity through dance and music - a celebration of understanding through performance. It brings together performers, artists and interested individuals from diverse backgrounds. It is a charitable foundation, having a home base in a studio facility in Toronto, and uses a variety of venues for its many programs:
  • A resource for Kathak dance, Tabla drums, and other dance, music and artistic forms
  • Performance by artists - Canadian and international
  • Music and dance workshops
  • Collaborations among cultures and artistic disciplines
  • Support of emerging cultural performance groups.

Diverse Individuals - A Common Dedication

The foundation is overseen by a volunteer board and an executive committee. The members reflect the breadth and background of the Ontario community.
Joanna Das: Artistic Director and Chair
Joanna is perhaps the only Canadian born artist to achieve a Master's Degree in Kathak dance through Prayag Sangit Samiti, Allahabad, India. Her extensive performance and collaborative accomplishments have formed a platform for M-DO's cross-cultural philosophy. With almost 20 years of dedication to Kathak dance study, performance and teaching, Joanna brings an artist's perspective and boundless energy to M-DO.
Ritesh Das: Artistic Co-Director
Ritesh received his musical training in the classical Indian tradition. Since moving to Canada, he has branched into other forms and has collaborated with many western jazz, popular and experimental musicians as well as percussionists from many backgrounds and nations. Ritesh is the artistic director of the Toronto Tabla Ensemble, the first musical group of its kind in Canada.
