THE PHOTOGRAPHER





Abe Thomy began his career at the age of 16 and studied under the late Sanbourn Chase. He served in WWII as a photographer and correspondent. Upon returning from the war, he entered the Art Institute of Philadelphia. After completion of his studies he returned to Lake City, South Carolina, where he specialized in portrait photography. He has been recognized nationally through his photos of literary figures, society leaders, television and motion picture stars as well as many internationally known personalities. He was creator and author of a newspaper column entitled "Through My Lens," which was carried in over 65 publications and enabled him to share his experiences with many readers.
Mr. Thomy was the first photographer to have an opening at the Gibbs Art Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina His work has also been displayed at the Columbia Museum, from which point it traveled the Southern Circuit.
Mt. Thomy is still active in photography and specializes in a wide range of photo needs and techniques.
In May of 1996, Mr. Thomy was recognized by the State of South Carolina House and Senate where they passed a resolution commending him for his "more than 50 years of portraiture and services to the citizens of the Palmetto State."
