Me!!!

Here's a little self-portrait.

My name is Sarah Oleksyk. I'm a cartoonist and am studying illustration at Parsons in New York City... about to graduate too. No mistake, man! I self-publish a comic called Roadside and my work is in Junkfood City, an independent comic book. I'm 21 years old and am addicted to coffee and salt.

I grew up in Portland, Maine, and though I'm in New York now I keep stumbling across more and more people who seem to be from that area... maybe it's just a small world... anyhoo, I'm an independent person with a black sense of humor, so I tend to scare people away. It's a good quality to have - you weed out the people who can't hang.

What New York Is Like

I lived in Brooklyn for three months, the absolute scum of the earth place to be. It looks like a war zone. I didn't leave my house after dark once. Everyone there (New York, too, not just that foul borough) seems completely defeated. There's an aura of death and rot hanging over the place. Too many goddamn people and the pestilence they bring with them. They crawl like maggots over the streets, killing each other, pissing on the sidewalks, begging for food, menacing strangers. It's a little slice of hell on earth.
