This is where three men hoped to land, hope to begin a new life in Canada.
Their dreams died with them.
The men were stowaways, hidden in a ship's cargo container.
It became their metal coffin.
When these workers opened the container, they found the men, naked and died.
It must have been very hot in these, he says, not and not enough air.
They had food and water. What they didn't have was luck.
They were pobably put in the container in a pile of containers somewhere down in the ship.
"And they were there without the possibility of banging on the walls to let the crew know they were inside."
In there struggle to survice, they sawed a hole in the container.
It wasn't enough. They suffocated.
These stowaways were luckier, Romanians on the same ship but their containers were better positioned.
They escaped.
"We were worried about running out of air." he says.
" After nine days, we broke out of our container."
And they joined a long line of other stowaways, mostly Romanians, who risked everything to land in Canada.
About 100 people arrived every year by ship container in Montreal.
Nothing seems to deter them, not police investigations, not even the news of this ship, the captain accused of throwing stowaways overboard before landing in Halifax.
These stowaways know the risk but still, they say, it was worth escaping the poverty they face in Romania.
He says "Either I left for Canada or I would die in Romania."
