COTSWOLD MORRIS
YONINA GORDON
Strap on your bells, pick up some sticks, and we'll take a look at Morris dances from the village of Ilmington, in Warwickshire. The stepping in this tradition combines double and single steps with some exhuberant capers and jumps. The sticking patterns are simple and fun. Sneakers or aerobic dance shoes are the most appropriate footwear. For all levels.
LONGSWORD
YONINA GORDON
Longsword is a stately, often mystical ritual dance form whose roots are in northern England. The class will feature "Nova Locks," an original dance composed by New World Sword of New York City. The dance includes figures and several sword locks from a variety of English longsword dances. English country dancers will recognize some figures based on pousettes and a mirror hey. The dance ends with the unfurling of the team flag, which is a tradition borrowed from Continental sword dancing. No jumping or vigorous stepping is required. Each individual weaves a specific pattern as the swords dance around the set, so once the sets are formed, please plan to attend all the classes. Sneakers or aerobic dance shoes are the most appropriate footwear. For all levels.
