IVAN'S ISLAND

You have just paddled a small canoe about midway across Providence Pond and are about to dock  on Ivan's Island. The name Ivan means "gracious gift of God". The bible tells us that all children are a gift from God, therefore I am going to use this secluded retreat for the poems I have written for and about children and also to introduce you to my two sons  and my beautiful little granddaughter.

MY BOY

/user/Scottuni.jpg

September twenty-seven
of seventy-two
Doesn't mean much
To most of you
I became a mother
On that morn
I welcomed to the world
My very first born
Time passed quickly
That bundle of joy
Grew into a rough and tough
Busy little boy
I watched him closer then
So maybe I could see
Just a tiny glimpse
Of the man that he would be
And I said this prayer too
Dear Lord when he is grown
Please leave me just a glimpse
Of the little boy I've known

NO RED RIBBONS

/user/jasonstu.jpg

Not so many oohs
Not so many ahs
When your the second child
Its hard to see the stars
The ones that shine so brightly
In each new parent's eyes
When their very first born
Finally arrives
But never feel unwanted
Don't let yourself be sad
Every child's a gift from God
That should make you glad
Because you came in second
Don't mean you didn't score
Love comes from within the heart
Where there is always more
Be sure to count your blessings
Be happy that your you
Love don't have a second place
And you aren't number two

THE PRICELESS GIFT

/user/Jasmine.jpg

There is no worldly valuable
More precious then a child
A gentle sweet reminder
The Lord above us smiled
Their almost perfect innocence
Is clearly a reflection
Of his ever boundless love
And ultimate perfection
Every child's a gift from God
So he provides protection
By sending out his angels
For comfort and direction
They keep a constant vigil
They wipe away each tear
They help them with decisions
They calm their every fear
Keep them on a steady course
In hopes they do not drift
They soothe away their troubles
They guard the priceless gift

Cause of Joy

http://www.oocities.org/gbim/stndgls48.gif

The beauty of a single rose
Just can't be compared
Unless the branch the rose grows on
Is one that must be shared
shared with a tiny rosebud
That will blossom all too soon
And give the world another rose
A beauty in full bloom
A daughter's like a rosebud
The mother's like the flower
That shares the branch she grows on
And guards her with the power
The power God gave mothers
When He blessed them from above
By sending them a little girl
To care for, teach, and love

This poem was originally titled "The Mother Flower". The name was changed when I included it in my first book and dedicated it to a little girl named Abigail (Cause Of Joy).

"...Anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."  MARK 10:15
