Nurse

Angel in White

For 30 plus years, she sat at bedsides, and sometimes brought life into this world. But sometimes, she would sit at a bedside, and hold a hand as a life left this world. An angel in white for so long. Putting others ahead of herself, caring for anyone who needed caring for. So many she saw, and held them as they came into this world, cradling their little bodies in her arms, softly speaking to them, comforting them, till they could be places in the arms of their mothers.

And some she held, and cradled their heads in her arms as they left this worldly domain, for a better place, whispering words of comfort till the angels came to take them away. An angel in white.

And now, she lies here cared for by daughters, sons, brothers, sisters, and a loving husband. They help her with everything, moving her, giving her medicines, comforting her as they can.

But for those who know,, and can see, there is another there. Cradling her head in her lap, wiping her brow, and whispering comforting words to her. It is an Angel in white. One night it might be Clara Barton, another night it is Florence Nightingale. Always, an Angel in white, doing what they do best.

And soon, another Angel in white will come. Be it St. Peter, or St. Paul, they will come, and they will touch her gently, and lift the burden from her shoulders. They will carry her away to the Great Physician, and He will look at her, and hold her to His breast.

Then He will hand her that little white hat, and clothe her in white, and she shall become one of God's Angels in white.
