Slumped in his saddle...

Slumped in his saddle
On his way home
A hard day behind him
Cold, weary , alone.

He longs for the fire
And a meal on the table
At home with his wife
Just make it if he's able

He thinks of the kiss
He'll get at the door
With all the kids playing
Around on the floor

The squeals and the hugs
When they see that dad’s home
And he knows that there
He'll never be alone

The light in the window
Now he can see
Just a little bit more
And he'll be home free.

He stables his horse
With water and feed
And heads for the house
To the family he needs.

He'll sit in his chair
And on his pipe he will smoke
And the face of his beloved
His hand he will stroke

Then to bed he will go
To sleep hard and deep
He'll be up and around
Before the sun up does creep

Back out on the range
Stray steers he will find
But home wife and family
Will be what’s on his mind

So, he'll round up the strays
And the fences he'll mend
Just doing what he must
Till another day ends.
