VEINGLORY'S SHERLOCK HOLMES
AND VAMPIRES PAGE
Chronology of all the stories I know that feature both Sherlock Holmes and Vampires, and reviews of those I have read. PLEASE tell me about any not on the list.
CHRONOLOGY
1975
- "The Holmes/Dracula File" (Novel) by Fred Saberhagen
First in a fairly lengthy series - notable as the earliest crossover I know of, but not a particularly interesting realization
1978
- "The Tale of the Sanguinary Count" aka "Sherlock Holmes and Dracula" (Novel) by Loren Estleman
not read
1988
- "Scarlet in Gaslight" (Graphic Novel) by Martin Powell (writer) and Seppo Makinen (artist)
The art is mediocre but the story is OK and some of the moments are brilliant. I especially like a scene where Holmes has gone into shock after realising vampires are real. Watson grumbles about how hard he is to sedate because of the effect of other self-administered drugs.
1993
- "A Night in Lonsome October" (Novel) by Roger Zelazny
not read
1994
- "Seance for a Vampire" (Novel) by Fred Saberhagen
paperback at Amazon - AMAZON (3rd September 1999)
Part 8(!) in the Holmes-Dracula series. Holmes is kidnapped by vamps, Watson and Holmes's cousing Dracula to the rescue.
1995
- "The Tangled Skein" (Novel) by Stuart Davies
not read
- 'The Adventure of the Missing Coffin' (Short Story) by Laura Resnick; in "Sherlock Holmes in Orbit" edited by Mike Resnick and Martin H. Greenberg
not read
- 'Dracula on the Rocks' (Short Story) by Carole Nelson Douglas; in "Celebrity Vampires" edited by Martin H. Greenberg
This story actually features Irene Adler and neither Holmes nor Watson appear. It it interesting and almost clever (OK - faint praise)
1997
- "The Vampire Serpent" (Novel) by Kel Richards
Part 3 in the the Sherlock Holmes Tales of Terror Series; not read.
YEAR UNKNOWN
- "The Probability Pad" (Novel) by T. A. Waters
- "Sherlock Holmes vs Dracula" (radio show)
- "The Adventure of the Carpathian Horror" (audiobook) featuring Tom Conway and Nigen (?) Bruce
- "Supping with Panthers" aka "Slave to My Thirst" (Novel) by Tom Holand
paperback at Amazon - AMAZON (6 June 1999)
Great Sherlock Holmes, fine Victorian tone in London and India HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
