It was my fault. I misinterpreted the GeoCities homesteading guidelines. Unlike a lot of the internet, GeoCities is NOT for adults only. I knew that pornography, profanity, and graphic nudity were taboo. But I thought erotica might be acceptable in this web gallery.
Wrong. The SoHo community leadership has since informed me that the sexual and explicit nature of some of my writing is not suitable for this site. There are other places on the net where such adult content is welcome, and I'm making plans to relocate samples of "Sex for Money" and my "Passion" poetry elsewhere. In the meantime, you might enjoy reading the comments I received before the offending material was removed. (Links and grammatical notes are mine.)
Geocities guidelines are quite specific about "child" access, all of the
free homesteads are openly accessible and fall under the "Family
Oriented" category, widely recognized on the Internet.
You should have read the "content guidelines" and understood this. Your
request leads me to believe you have done so, and are now wondering if
you have overstepped the free homestead program. In my personal opinion,
and specific to the reasons I already outlined, you are violating GC
content guidelines....
I know you will respond by doing the right thing, and making changes
that will guarantee your place in the SoHo Community.
an important point is that her picture wasn't even sexually
explicit. it had nothing to with sex and they still ordered it down.
you may find that other people will find your stuff to be WORSE
and therefore i suggest taking it down. there are however, sites like
geocities that allow sexually explicit articles for free and you might
want to look into that.
Out of curiosity, I did visit your pages, checked into most
everything... I wouldn't consider your poetry, novellas, or clips,
pornography at all.
However, in terms of "Family Friendly" all of your Sex for Money section
and most of you "Passion" poetries {sic} would be considered offensive by any
parental guidelines, and therefore must be removed or edited.
The problem as I see it, is that your skill in describing a sexual scene
without using profanity, does not lessen the impact of the visual
effect. Our young viewers will definitely understand where you are
coming from, even without the "four-letter words". This is what makes
your poetry and stories unacceptable for all viewers. I believe you are
well aware of this, and I applaud your coming forward to ask if that is
a concern.
Having read your letter requesting help from the SoHo
community leaders:
I for one am deeply offended at your "Sex for Money" page. One reason
being that as a licensed Massage Therapist I have had to do much
education of the public to dispel
the mindset and the equation that all massage businesses equal
prostitution. How dare you continue this inappropriate assumption. I
strongly feel that this part of your website needs to be deleted.
Hope that you will correct this error so that all can easily have access
to your homepage.
you're treading on a very thin line. a friend of mine... had a nude picture of herself up, defying
geocities on purpose to prove a point. she comes from a place where it's
legal for a girl to take off her shirt in public, and was promoting
women's rights. geocities "ordered" her to take the picture down, which
she did.
