Here is Jake (at 4 months)and Pepper (at 5 months) going nuts at the lake near our house. Jake got so excited about the ducks out there, he jumped in the water after them...he hasn't done that again--the water was COLD!! Jake is a blue merle sheltie and is a novice (along with me!!) to the show ring!! Jake is so laid back, you could do just about anything to him and he wouldn't care...except DON'T think you can say things like "ball", "frisbee", or "walk" without getting a reaction from him. Jake is a real nut for learning new tricks. He is learning to be a super Frisbee dog and he can do all the "parlor tricks" as well. Someday, he will be a real showman--whether in the show ring or the entertainment arena!! He even recently went to a Puppy Birthday Party and got to wear a party hat...while eating special doggie birthday cake for this friend, Precious', First Birthday!

Jake's breeder is Diana Cuellar, who can be seen at Wildwind Shelties website.

Jake's nephew, Wildwind's Distant Thunder...known as CRUISE!...is now a new member of our family. He is a real fun guy. He looks exactly like his grandfather, Thunder (shown below), and is a lot smaller than Jake. They are super friends and partners in crime. Speaking of crime, Cruise is a master of escaping from his crate. I still don't know how he does it but he escapes daily from his crate and runs to find his daddy. He and Mickey are buddies and Cruise makes himself at home in daddy's lap. You can see some of Cruise's accomplishments at Wildwind Shelties website.

Here is Jake as a tiny baby--Diana took this picture. Thanks, Diana, for the precious baby picture!!
Jake was entered in his first AKC Puppy Match at Nolan River Kennel Club show in Glen Rose, Texas and took fourth place--out of four, but at least he looked good to me!! Hey, he was only 5 months old!! He actually did pretty terrific for not knowing anything about the ring--neither of us have been anywhere near a show ring before.

I would like to give major credit to Diana Cuellar of Wildwind Shelties and to Donna Oakley-Jones of Oakleaf Shelties for their tireless and patient help!!

Here is a picture of Jake's dad and Cruise's Grandfather--Musical Fanfare Just Tri'N --"Thunder"

And, here is Jake's Great-Grandfather -- Ch Silkhaven Steel'n Thunder --"Landen"

UPDATE

Jake in Boerne, TX-- the day of his first blue ribbon!!

OUR FIRST AKC SHOW WAS A WINNER!!!

(Well, sort of for us!!!)

February 7, 1998 - Shetland Sheepdog Club of Austin - Boerne TX

We were entered in the 6 - 9 month Puppy Dog Class for each group.
We got Second Place in Sweeps under Judge Kylene Osha. How exciting -- Our first real(!!!) AKC ribbon and a bone to boot!!

Jake placed Second in Breed under Judge Shelley Roos. I was so excited to get a ribbon--Jake was just excited to be there!! We weren't nearly as nervous as I had thought I would be.

February 8, 1998 - Alamo Area Shetland Sheepdog Club - Boerne TX

We started off the day with Third Place in Sweeps under Judge Ralph Elledge but at least Jake's half brother, C-Image Easy Spirit of Wildwind (EZ) placed Second --Keep it in the family!!

Well, our last chance came up and WE WON!!!! For Breed under the highly respected Judge, Mrs. Barbara Linden, Jake got his first Blue Ribbon in the 6-9 Month Puppy Dog class!!!!! We were both very excited and I was near tears---I never expected that so soon (but I was hoping!!). I didn't realize at the time that we would have to make a few more trips into the ring later that day but it was good practice and much fun!! We went back in for Best Dog and then for Best Puppy (which surprised us since I thought we were finished!) but no more wins that day (not that I am complaining!). Jake was hilarious and full of pep the whole time he was in the ring! I will have pictures to show of him as taken after his win that day-he looked GREAT! Thanks to everyone who gave us support and especially AGAIN I want to Thank Diana and Donna for not only showing me how great showing can be but encouraging me to do the best I can and still enjoy it, win or lose. I had a wonderful weekend!!
