FAQ

Q. Can I use these icons on a Mac or a PC?

A. I haven't used an Apple Computer since the IIe, so I'm not quite sure how to replace or use icons with Macs. Try one of the other icon sites you'll find around the WWW. As for PCs, read on:

Q. How do I install these great icons on my computer?

A. Easy, kind of. First of all, these icon packs are compressed, which basically means they've been "dehydrated" so they download faster. You need to decompress them to work on your computer. Various free- and share-ware programs are available that do this. Some of the more popular ones are PKZIP for Windows or StuffIt Expander, which works with both Macs and PCs.

After you expand the file, it will be in one of several formats. Here's how to use them:

1. An .icl file. This is an icon library, one file that contains a bunch of icons. The CoolBlue.icl file is an example. There are various ways to change individual default icons to CoolBlue ones, but the best and easiest way is to use any of various shareware programs to do it for you. Go back to our download page and click the links for IconPax, or Icon Customizer. Or if you want to also start creating your own icons, check out the great Microangelo.

2. A .cur or .ani file. These are for cursors and animated cursors. Put these in your c:\windows\cursors folder. To change them, you can use the above mentioned shareware programs, or go to START --> SETTINGS --> CONTROL PANEL. Double-click the MOUSE icon. At the top, select the POINTERS tab. You should be able to BROWSE and select the coolblue cursors, etc from here.

Hope this helps. I know it's not much of a handholding, but I'm like gainfully employed now and can't answer too many emails in too much detail. So good luck. And may the hump be with you.
