Noone quite knows how or why menaces such as these can exist as they are more than animated krajen carcasses, and less than full blown intelligent undead. It is rumored that they are the creation of powerful liches who intend to reside within the newly created undead self propelled vessel. Another prevailing theory takes into account the tremendous size of these monstrosities. Some sages believe that since Krajens grow throughout their entire lives that maybe the final phase is a form of undeath where the consumption of food can no longer support the vast energy requirements of a being that large and so their metabolism shifts, now requiring life itself to sustain them. Regardless of their origin, these fearsome beasts are exceedingly dangerous.
Combat: Undead Krajen will seek to crush an opponent of huge and greater size (their primary prey are other krajen and kindori) with their main tentacle for 4-40 hit points or 1-4 hull points, depending upon their target. On a hit of 18 or more the Undead Krajen has snared its opponent and can crush each round thereafter automatically. When unable to crush a smaller opponent, the main tentacle can still do 4-24 hit points in damage per hit.
The smaller tentacles ringing the main tentacle number from 1-12. Any that are missing are too broken to be used effectively. These whiplike tentacles strike out and hit for 1-3 in addition, those hit must save versus poison or pass out for 1-10 rounds and take 4 more damage. All tentacles can be used at the same time, but the Undead Krajen can only bring 2 to bear upon any single target.
The result of all this is merely for the Krajen to continue its hellacious existance. For every 4 points of damage (rounded up) a tentacle does (including poison damage, but not including ship attacks), the Krajen regenerates 1 hit point. Their undead nature allows them to be turned but 3 priests or paladins must act in concert and all must successfully turn against a mummy. Fire is especially effective against an Undead Krajen, any flaming attacks are at +4 to hit and damage.
Habitat/Society: There is no habitat or society as such for Undead Krajen, they eat everything they encounter. No two have ever been observed meeting and no sage has even guessed what might occur should two meet. They are found in wildspace, far away from primary fire bodies and other powerful sources of heat. They are immune to all forms of poison and cold.
Ecology: Not much is known of the ecology of Undead Krajen, they are pretty dangerous to be around, much less study. However some brave tinker gnomes from the Department of Xenoform Investigation and Examination have managed to observe one in its hunting and lived to tell. They were preparing to discover how a Kindoris eyes emit such powerful lights (The Gnomish Yacht Club of Iron Piece was designing secret plans for a Radiant Sidewheeler to keep even with the Elves) when an exceptionally large Undead Krajen loomed out of the darkness of space and attacked the pod. The gnomes sadly did not have any fire weapons but as luck would have it, one of their water cannons managed to catch fire and solve the problem, covering the Krajen in brilliantly flaming water. Resulting in a thoroughly dead Krajen and the destruction of half the gnomish sidewheeler fleet.
