Who is Jean Gilbert? A better question would be, who are Jean and Gilbert? In truth, we are David and Barbara Rincon. Two sensible and intelligent human beings who passionately love quilting and spend most of our free time quilting. It's an obsession, what can we say? But where does Jean Gilbert fit into the scope of things you ask? Well, to give credit where credit is due, the name Jean Gilbert comes from the clever mind of Barbara. Jean, her middle name, Gilbert his. Her reasoning, "If they don't like our work they'll never connect to us". I thought it pretty funny. We embarked on our quilting endeavor in the spring of 1992. The initial interest was all David s. Barbara contended that she had done all the sewing she ever wanted to do when the children were growing up and just didn t require any more endeavors of that kind any more. David contented that he could not take the essential quilting classes with all those women alone and that she, Barbara, would have to go with for moral support. After much pleading and groveling on David's part, Barbara finally relented. We put ourselves in the capable hands of Nancyann Twelker for our first class and the rest is history. We caught the quilting bug and have been going strong ever since. We have created well over 100 quilts since then and hope to continue doing so for a long time. You know the quilter s creed: |
