Hikaru Moonstream

Race: Silvanesti Elven

Class: Fighter/Mage/Thief (Infiltrator / Spy)

Age: Approximately 70 yr. human, appears to be around 17 or 18

Appearance: Hikaru is an attractive young elven girl with long blond hair and curious green eyes.  She is quickly growing out of the "cute" stage and into a very beautiful young woman. She returned from the war in Solamnia with her high dyed black/brown, braided, and with a considerably more mature style.

History:

Hikaru spent a majority of her youngest days with the Silvanesti in exile, as their homeland was twisted by the spells of the dragon orb. Her father serves in the Senate, a member of the upper house of Silvanost, and a decorated former general in the army. Her mother was raised as a typical noble woman, sister to one of the high wizards of Silvanost, and has few qualities which distinguish her from all the other women of her stature. As a young child, Hikaru grew up under the tutelage of her three older brothers: Amoru, Remiel, and Noah. Being the oldest, Amoru was into his early teens when Hikaru came along, and so their relationship was not extremely close. Remy and Noah were her playmates and constant companions. Her younger brother, Felix, was born seventeen years after her.

The life of a young elf is filled with general fun, and Hikaru had more than her share. Since she spent most of her time with her brothers, she really didn’t understand the difference between boys and girls, and was quite a tomboy. Her mother saw it as a stage, while her father paid little attention to the younger children, focusing on his senatorial work as well as training Amoru to be the pride of their generation. When the family returned to Silvanost, magically returned to its splendor once more, Hikaru was often out for days at a time with her brothers, especially in the summers. She began growing up, and it came time for her to be sent away for proper schooling. The young girl didn’t adjust well to her new surroundings. All the other girls were far too dull. They teased her for being a tomboy and not really acting like a lady in general. Though she didn’t get in any fights, she was often punished for bad behavior.

Her only joy came in the breaks, when she would travel back home and spend time with her brothers, stomping through creeks, fencing, practicing with bows and arrows, and doing all the things she truly enjoyed. Amoru was at this point a rising officer in the Silvanesti Wildrunners, and Remy was beginning to follow in his footsteps. Noah was on his way to an apprenticeship with their uncle, the wizard, and Hikaru would often tag along for training. She picked up a bit of magic, as her uncle was more understanding of her curious nature than her father.

By the next "year", Hikaru was thrown out of school and began instead learning from her mother, whose educational methods were even more rigorous. Along with a thorough course of study which included history, literature, and art came more "practical" knowledge, such as cooking and art. Hikaru would have preferred to join her brothers, but that was not an option. She grudgingly accepted that this was at least better than school, and went along with it. Her mother became very fond of her, though Hikaru always resented the woman, simply for the fact that she was satisfied to play a subordinate role for the rest of her life.

The young elf had by this point physically grown into a vibrant, attractive teenager. Her parents kept her out of the social scene, due to her lack of "graces", but that only gave her more of an opportunity to go out with her old gang of friends. All of these boys had grown up into promising young men, who couldn’t help but notice that their very un-girlish childhood friend had become quite a sight. They all spent one last happy summer together until Silvanesti society’s guidelines split them apart.

Angered by his daughter’s rebellious qualities, Hikaru’s father sent her to an even more prestigious academy in the south of the elven nation. Her admittance was based solely on her father’s name and family honor. He also arranged for her to be formerly introduced into elven society, and went to significant lengths to find her daughter a suitor. He was successful in talking to the mother of Amoru’s best-friend,   a colonel in the Silvanesti honor guard, and almost certain to take his family seat in the senate. The young officer had quite a name in Silvanost, and only through family connections was Hikaru’s father able to make the deal.

Returning home one fall to hear of this news, the young elf was more than upset. She had no intention of being a bride anytime soon, and while engagements usually lasted quite a while in elven society, it was an irreversible process. The fight between father and child which ensued almost resulted in Hikaru being disowned. She herself verbally expressed disregard for many aspects of Silvanesti culture. Her father gave her the ultimatum of either going through with his plans, or joining her brothers and serving in the military, if she thought she was so tough. Instead, Hikaru slipped out of her room that night, gathering up a few things, and left.

Her journey took her through the parts of Krynn she had always wanted to see. Hikaru paid her way by picking pockets and the like, and really blended in rather well. Her first impressions of the outside world were full of childlike wonder. The girls travels finally brought her to Solace, where her life took a decidedly different turn. She had never planned to stay all that long, but ended up meeting a whole group of interesting people which prompted her to stick around: Fizban, the mysterious befuddled old wizard, Yellow Belmont and Karl Lupine, the enigmatic songstress and honey tongued poet (these two proving to later be two alter-egos for one man), the beautiful bard Eve, and her good friends Rand and Nethalye. She has remained in Solace for over two years now, and though she has begun longing for home, she has no intention of leaving anytime soon.

Hikaru until recently has lived in the White Mages' tower in Solace, though she has studied without the mentorship of an elder wizard.  Living with the mysterious half-irda, Nethalye, Hikaru has formed a close friendship with the more dedicated and talented student, though she goes out of her way to keep Nethalye from becoming too serious.  She has yet to take her wizards test, and is unsure if that is the path she wants to continue upon.

The young elf has also found guidance and support in Kyle Wyndsong, the half-elven man of many faces.  His idealism is something which she greatly respects, and almost idolizes.  He has taught her to question the conventional, and to live her life by her own standards, not those of society.  While not as politically motivated as he is, Hikaru has agreed to accompany him on a journey to Solamnia, in an effort to end the war and bring peace to the land and its people.

In her more personal life, Hikaru is involved with the human raised elf Rand.   Despite the fact that they get along quite well, and are closer friends than anything else, she is at an awkward age where she is unsure of her true feelings.

During the civil war in Solamnia, Hikaru served as a spy and assassin for the elite fighting unit the Red Dragons, under the command of the former mercenary Kuno Hunter. She has returned to Solace with a radically different appearance, persona, and outlook on life... as well as a considerable price on her head.

Notes from Mai:

Hikaru is a Japanese word, and the closest English translation would be "to shine"

None of this artwork is mine (my rendition of Hikaru was a stick figure with pointy ears), but it's pretty cute... so lots of credit to the artists whom I... borrowed... it from.
