VAIN HOPES AND FALES DREAMS

Note: this article is responding to Abdirahman Hassan’s article, titled "Mr Kahin’s visit to Djibouti published" at Hiiraan web site.

Jaale Hassan,

In referring to your article, which in particular designed for specific malicious allegations and series of fabricated plots, and misleading quotations outlined to invalidate Somaliland's right to exist. As a matter of fact Mr. Hassan you have failed to have the knowledge of understanding to distinguish fact from fiction. In practical terms you imply shallow concepts on the basis of imperfect evidences and limited understanding of actual core of the reality with regard to Somaliland’s legal right to exist. It is an absurd notion for you Mr. Hassan to advocate such outdated views, which is far too irrelevant and inappropriate to speculate at present time. Sensible people will look forward to a clearer articulation of their animated visions and critical evaluation of their remarks in the light of reason and experience. So far what you are suggesting is pretty meagre, and there is no sign of any changes of those who campaign against essence and the very existence of our society. Furthermore, looking at your reaction provides me with an in-sight interpretation, of your ignorance, which follows the obvious trail of those who failed to stop Somaliland’s self-determination and prevailing democratic principle, which is grabbing the headlines for the right reasons.

But it would be beneficial for you to grasp the history of Somaliland and Somalia comprehends the matter even further.

Let me give you some enlightenment and run through a short brief history between Somaliland and Somalia. Somaliland had been separate state with its own international Boundaries before, during and after the colonial period. During the colonial era, the country was known as the British Protectorate of Somaliland.

Upon the independence on 26 June 1960, for the first two days 35 countries recognised Somaliland as a sovereign state. The independent state Somaliland however made dreadful mistake by adhering to the lofty idea of Greater Somalia of the 50’s and 60’s. Unfortunately Somalia (south) has not only killed that fantastic idea of Greater Somalia, but Djibouti also cut the throat of that idea by forming its own separate state.

Mr. Hassan Let me illustrate what I have in mind and give you couple classic cases as the desolation of the Somaliland peoples begun to mount from the onset, in 1961 young military officers attempted to withdraw Somaliland from Somalia. The officers were captured and put to trial, on the charges of treason. The Court acquitted all the officers because the court had no jurisdiction over Somaliland and recognised Somaliland as a separate state due to lack of an act of union joining the two merged states Somaliland and Somalia. Joining sessions of two legislative assemblies of the respect states never ratified the act of union.

The same year, a draft constitution of the two states was put to a referendum. However, the people of Somaliland rejected the constitution, the percentage of the voters against was as follows: Hargiesa 89%, Barbera 81%, Burco 77%, Erigavo 73%. The vast majority of people Somaliland rejected that constitution. The union between Somaliland and Somalia was illegal and state within a state.

The injustice, inequality, massive killings, and bombardment of erasing Cities and Villages to a lower ground, compelled SNM to wage an armed struggle against the domination of south of Somalia.

SNM took the final action to free and liberate Somaliland from its malfunctioning union. Somaliland was declared reborn on May 18 1991 (reborn because it had briefly existed as a separate state). Somaliland regained its sovereignty after 30 years of torrer and carnage air raid bombardments that led to the reclamation and restoration of our original status.

Somaliland restored its sovereignty, territorial integrity and separate national identity. Somaliland returned its original international recognised borders in conformity with international law including OAU in its resolution –AHG/REG.161 provided to pledge by all member states to respect bounders existing on their achievement of national independence. Somaliland withdraws its dysfunctional political union with Somalia like many other countries before it such as: 1 Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, 2 Syria and Egypt, 3 Singapore and Malaysia etc.

Somaliland has a right to exist. The people of Somaliland exercise their rights under the international law (United Nation Universal Declaration of Human Right).

Part II article No.1 All people have the right of self-determination. By the virtue of that right, they can freely determine their political status and free to pursue their economic, social, cultural development.

Article-15 No.1 Everyone has a right to a nationality. No.2 no one shall be arbitrarily deprived of their nationality.

Article-20 No. 2-no one shall be compelled to belong to nationality/an association as you trying to compel Somalilnders to be a citizen of Somalia, which is myth and unacceptable to the people of Somaliland. In accordance with international principles proclaimed in the charter of (UNUDHR) and Somaliland certainly exercise its existing rights in conformity with these principles.

Somaliland has at most respect and appreciation its traditional norms and values as well as the respect of human rights adherence to democratic principles and rule of law, which is prevailing in Somaliland.

Besides I find it quite bizarre too purposedly learn or encounter an individual who calls me to drop the name of the Republic of Somaliland. Let me make these clear to Mr Hassan as prudent Somalilander, it is my duty and solemn responsibility to deter such transgressors.

Mr. Hassan, you have tendency ignorance, in which you have failed to have moral justification in the light facts and figures. What you are trying here is to distort, divert, and manipulate the facts to meet your own ends. Furthermore, your premeditated ideas, permits you to make such an unusual confident judgements. However, I am unimpressed with your remarks, and refuse to join in your crusade, which shows me that are morally dubious and intellectually shallow.

But you can always fantasise your vain hopes and false dreams.
