Guess what, I have a lizard: Jose
I think that I found one of the best types of lizards, but I do think a chameleon would be neat.  Jose is (I believe) a female Chinese water dragon.  Yeah yeah, I know Jose is not a good name for a female lizard, but when I got her, everyone thought she was a male.
This lizard will eat almost anything that moves and is small enough to fit in it's mouth:
Earthworms, mealworms, fish, crickets, some fruit, smaller lizards (I know that from experience), waxworms, mealbeetles, some sources say baby mice.
Bad  News, Jose died a while back.  She accidentally ingested a lot of sand and died of an impaction.
I highly recomend the Chinese Water Dragon to anyone looking for a pet lizard, they are easy to keep, friendly (I've had two), and will eat most any insect.  Plus they do not not get nearly as large as iguanas.
Water dragons get about two feet long, iguanas can get to about six feet in length.
