The Cake
Our wedding cake
Our wedding cake was fantastic!!!  It wasn't designed to match anything in particular but to be a feature in itself.  It was a 2 tier chocolate mud cake - or so we thought!  We had been tossing up whether or not to make one layer orange mud and decided against it.  I was starting to re think the decision closer to the wedding but decided to let it go.  When we finally cut into the top layer, it was ORANGE MUD much to our surprise and delight!

As far as decorations went we chose an ivory fondant icing with little blue hearts on each layer and blue ribbon around the base of each.  My beloved and pedantic groom practically drove the lady mad when trying to determine exactly WHICH shade of blue would look best!  How many brides can say their grooms had THAT level of dedication???

We had a gorgeous "Forever Friends" cake top consisting of a bride and groom bear with 2 little flowergirl bears dressed in blue.  The bears had blue and champagne flowers so we did the cake like that too.

We decided to have blue and champagne mini roses and blue daisies on the cake along with green mini ivy leaves (of course).

We thought the flowers would just be on top of he cake but we were in for another great surprise when we saw what they did with them!

The cake tasted fantastic too!  Only about 1/4 of the bottom layer had been cut up and bagged so we had plenty to snack on!
Our cake table with the bridal table behind it (just for two!)
We also had a traditional Ukrainian wedding cake/bread called a korovai.  Mum made it.  Traditionally there are several of these...a bride's one, a groom's one and one to be served (I think).  We just had the one and didn't cut it.  It was symbolic only.  The decorations are supposed to be quite specific and represent various things from properity to fertility.  Mum was naughty and decided to make lots and lots of balls for fertility!  Hmph!!!  The birds are also there for fertility so it seems like this was the only symbol of the cake!!!
