| WHAT IS REIKI? As Dr. Paula Horan states in her book, Empowerment Through Reiki*, "Reiki is Divine grace meant for anyone who is open to receiving it." The word Reiki is Japanese for Universal Life Force Energy. Broken down, Rei - pronounced "ray" -means universal, transcendental spirit, mysterious power. Ki - pronounced "key" - means life force energy. Life force energy exists in all living things. It is the vital essence of life that is limitless, pure and invisible. Reiki is more then 2,500 years old. It is a Japanese technique that promotes healing & balancing on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Although it is very powerful on it's own, it is also very effective in conjunction with conventional medicine and therapy. Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive method that can be used "hands-on" or "distance" *. In hands-on, the practitioner applies his/her hands lightly on the body of the individual, over clothing, and the healing energy is channeled into the receiver in an appropriate amount to what they require for healing - no more, no less. Though the term "healer" is often used to describe the Reiki practitioner and other energy workers, we are really channels for this loving, healing energy that is Divine is origin, and who have been trained and attuned to access and use it for this purpose. BENEFITS Some of the automatic benefits of Reiki include: relaxation, stress reduction, creating feelings of inner peace and stability, security and well-being. It has been effective in helping to promote healing in nearly every illness or affliction and is effective in relieving the side effects of traditional medicine such as chemotherapy. |
