둘째 마당 -지면은 평면이 아니라 입체다- One article on the news paper is not just to be alone. An article is connected with so many things and complex with other issues. To be a good newsreader , we need to practice not only seeing an article on the paper but also seeing a story behind the article and try to find other related news. Korean newspapers has hid many real facts or hasn't delivered important news that citizens are supposed to know because government and public organization severly abused their power to prevent negative news about it from existing on the newspaper. Dishonest articles has produced many extreme crises on Korean society . Since newspaper publishing companies (NPC) are totally private, we need to know that companies try anything to get more profit. Sometimes they even encourage localism. In addition, Korean NPC relatively have a heavy pressure from advertisements because these are the factor which take big percentage of money that NPC would earn. Bombarded advertisements in newspaper is one of the most serious problem that korean newspapers have these days. A lots of people read newspapers every morning . As I do , most of them accept and believe what was on the newspaper. Surprisingly, I never thought that it could be wrong or exaggerated. I usually passively read newspapers. Also , without any doubts. However, after knowing the real world about news paper, I think I would rather not read newspaper because it's better to not knowing than knowing something is wrong. Unless I don't read news paper, I have to start reading in active way. We must know that newspapers hold big power to change one nation ( For instnace, Korea had IMF because some abuses of newspapers) Over all, all fate of our country depends on editors. I was very annoyed by newspaper editors who ruined Korea by the way they edit. It's understandable that many circumstances could make them lie in Jun do hwan and Know tae woo previous presidents era, but now everyone has right to say the truth. The problem is that still many editors deceive their naive readers to get more profit, but no respectations to their readers at all. Newpapers had lost its function, solving problems with citizens . We can no longer wait until newspapers are changed , but first we have to change ourselves as a citizen. Also newspapers seemed to be not willing to be on our side because often times they cheat us. However, I don't want anyone to blame to newspapers because before that we have to think about ourselves. Are you an adequate reader? I believe I'm not. From now on, we need to start reading actively , having questions all the time as we read and be suspicious about everything you read. If we were smart readers, I believe we could change newspapers. Furthermore we could change our nation as well.
