Chapter Three
The Beginnings
------------------
“When do you think they will start the attack?” Asked Jade
“They already have. The Eastern army attacked
the Sora village late last night.” replied a man
with short black hair and silver eyes. He deadly
claws, sharp fangs, and large silver wings.
The man was also a dragon demon. He was dressed
in black armor and had a katana at his side.
“I see.” Whispered Jade as she closed her eyes
at the thought of innocent lives lost.
“What did…did it look like?”
“My scouts were flying over the Northern lands
as they do every night, when they saw the
flames from the sky. They raced to the village
as quickly as possible, but it was too late.
The entire village was aflame. The disgusting
odor of burning flesh permeated the air, and
the wailing of the dying was incessant.
The enemy burned everything and killed all
living things. The elders of the village were
hung on stakes and beheaded, they each had the
kanji of the rose on their chests. They were all
that was left to be seen from the once thriving village.
They checked the area thoroughly. Not a man, woman,
or child was spared. They even slaughtered the livestock.
The cowards who pillaged the village, simply
massacred any thing that held the light of life
in its eyes.” Orphan, General of the Northern
armies replied with a pained expression in his eyes.
“That was how my scouts described it.”
“And then?” Jade whispered
“They flew all night to bring you this news of
the invasion into our territory, my Lady.
I await your orders.”
“Those bitch marked them!!” sneered Jade as her
eyes changed from a calm blue to a raging red.
“That village didn’t stand a chance! I’ll kill Sakura!!
“My Lady, please calm down!” begged Orphan
“You’re right Orphan. I should calm down,
I need to think clearly.” Said Jade as her
eyes started to turn back to a calm blue
“Orphan, I need you to send a couple soldiers
to every village in the Northern lands.
Send out word of this attack and make sure the
villagers can at least defend themselves until
the soldiers arrive. We have no idea when they
will attack next, but they will attack again.”
Commanded Jade “I will inform Sesshomaru.”
“ My Lady are you sure it is wise to join in an
alliance with Sesshomaru? He is known to betray
those who join in alliance with him.”
“I already know he’s planning something against me.
What he does not realize though, is that I am planning
something as well. I must go now Orphan, and don’t
worry so much about me, worry more about yourself.
And call me Jade, we’ve known each other for years
and you’re my closest friend.” Jade said as she
disappeared through the door.
“My Lady..” Orphan whispered ‘You haven’t changed
a bit Jade, you still care so much about the weak.
I’ll never forget the day you changed my life.’
* Flashback *
“You stupid child!” Screamed a man as he kicked
a small demon child in the stomach.
“How dare you steal food from me! I’ll teach
ya not to do it again!”
“P-please sir, I’m sorry. I was just so
hungry, and the apples looked so good…”
whimpered the small boy
“I don’t care if you were hungry or not!”
the man had finally shown what he truly was, a demon.
As he raised his claws to end the boys life,
he was stopped by a small rock that him in
the back of his head.
“Hey! You leave him alone you big bully!”
Yelled a small girl as she threw another rock at him.
“How dare you!” screamed the man as he spun around. “My Lady!”
“Leave him alone!” the princess of the Northern
lands commanded. “If you don’t, I’ll tell my daddy!”
“I’m sorry my Lady!” whimpered the demon as he
ran off, with his tail between his legs.
“Are you okay?” asked a seven-year-old Jade
“I-I’m fine. Thank you for saving me.”
“Where’s your family?”
“I don’t have one.”
“Well…what’s your name?”
“ I-I don’t know.”
“Well, you have to have a name. I know!
I’ll call you Orphan!”
“Ok.”
“Since you don’t have a family, you can live
at the palace with me! I’ll protect you!
Do you want to?”
“Are you sure its alright?”
“Of course! Then, when I get older and can rule,
you can be my General. Ya have to work really
hard though, k?”
“Thank you!”
“No problem! It will be fun to have a friend at the
palace other than Fluffy!”
“Fluffy?” Orphan questioned
“Come on, I’ll tell you all about him on the way home.”
*End Flashback *
‘ I never could compare with him, could I jade?’
Orphan thought sadly
If the Lady of the Northern lands looked back at
her General, she would have seen the look her General
gave her. It was not a look he should give a superior.
It was a look of longing and love, a love that he
wanted to give her.

Commander, she would have seen the look he gave her.
