TRACEY McRORY

Four times All Irleand Fiddle Champion and also a noted Harp player, Tracey McRory comes from Dunree, Donegal and from a family steeped in the musical traditions of Ireland. She has the distinction of having performed for three different Irish Presidents and in 2004 she was given an award by President McAleese for musical services to peace and reconciliation. In 1996, she composed a haunting slow air "The Leaving of the Fog" dedicated to the children of Dunblane. Follwing this, she was commissioned with fellow writers Richard Laird and Sam Starrett to compose a special piece of music for An Crann/The Tree, an organisation dedicated to the healing of those bereaved and affected by the troubles in ireland. This piece "Calling An Angel Back Home" was first performed live at the Belfast Queens' Festival of 1998. Tracey has also a deep interest in the First World War and has been involved in several musical projects highlighting the irish connection in France and Flanders. Her Great Uncle was a padre with the Irish forces and was wounded at the battle of Paschendaele in 1917. Tracey's beautiful lament "Passchendaele" is now the official music of the Maple leaf Legacy a Canadian organisation honouring its country's war dead and she has performed with the canadian forces at Crest Farm, Passendale at the last two end of battle commemorations. She has performed at the evening ceremony at the Menin Gate on the last two Armistice ceremonies and on both occasions the large crowds there witnessed and indeed participated in the phenomenal rendition by Tracey of the beautiful irish air "Danny Boy."

Tracey was also the special guest of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers Association recently at the Bust of Tom Kettle in St. Stephen's Green at a ceremony honouring the Poet and MP who was killed at the battle of the Somme in September 1916. Tracey has a close musical association with writers Richard Laird and Sam Starrett who wrote the song "John Condon" and a plethora of haunting and evocative music of the Great War.
