"Danny Owen and We 3" on the left. That`s Wendell Owen, Norma Owen, Paul Surrat, on drums, and Danny Owen. In the late 60s, we were singing country music and won a contest or two. One of our prizes was a guest appearance on WSM`s TV show, "Young Country".
Norma got saved and refused to do any more country music. She also took up playing drums ( no offense,
Paul), and was really good at it.
The Owen Trio started playing at some local churches in 1970, but it wasn`t until we made some contacts in Nashville that it all sort of took off. Over the next 8 years, we sang over 8 states, until it got to the point where we would have to start setting a price for bookings, or cut back, so we could keep jobs to support the work.
We didn`t like the idea of setting a price on the Lord`s work, so we cut back. Then, as we married and started families, we eventually stopped.
Over the years we were privileged to meet and fellowship with the likes of the Rambos, the Hemphills, the Thrasher Brothers, Jake Hess Family, Bob Wills & the Inspirationals, Stella Parton ( Dolly`s sister), and bunches more. It was a blessing,
We made 3 albums over those 8 years.
Jesus Christ, What A Man;
Let Jesus Take Control;
and The Master`s Call.
As a matter of fact, we still have some of the Master`s Call, but no one has record players now.
I do have the 3 albums on CD now.
The song playing is "Let Jesus Take Control", one of the first songs I ever wrote. There`s nothing wrong with your sound, it came off an old 33 RPM record.
I was 17 when we recorded it. We sounded like the chipmunks. LOL
