The Mewtwo saga:
Myutsuu: ware wa kokoni ari!
(Mewtwo: here I am!)

The movie begins with a short summary of ‘Mewtwo Strikes Back’, introducing Mewtwo, Sakaki and the scientists, and the occurrences of Mewtwo Strikes Back, set one year before the main feature takes place. This introduction lasts only a few minutes.

Cut to Sakaki’s office. Sakaki is talking with an elite Rocket agent. He is also watching a large computer screen, which is focusing on a cliff face. The video on the screen is fuzzy, but clears slightly once focused on a creature on top of the cliff. It closes in showing the face of…Mewtwo.

We then see from Mewtwo’s point of view, the setting sun. He seems to be speaking to Meowth and Pikatwo, and the other clones, who sitting on the cliff behind him. (Assume he is informing them this is their home now, and that even though they are clones, they are free to be, here)

The Annoying Narrator intones cheerfully, introducing Satoshi-tachi. The three children are walking through the woods, and come to a deep gorge and majestic cliff face. Takeshi (Brock) checks his reference book, and Satoshi becomes excited. Some dialogue is exchanged, and Takeshi produces a frying pan from his pack. Kasumi points out an approaching bus on the road along the cliff below. They realise they are about to miss it, and hurry down the hill towards the bus stop. Clouds quickly cover the sun and a storm begins (Takeshi uses his frying pan as an umbrella). They hurry through the storm, unaware they are being watched by Musashi, Kojiro and Meowth.

Our usual Team Rocket, Musashi, Kojiro and Meowth, have set up a beach umbrella to keep dry. James is eating meatballs on a stick, and Meowth is referring to a book with the team Rocket insignia on the front (a bad-guy guide? Hee hee hee) He reads them a passage. Musashi and Kojiro stare at him looking less than pleased at what he has recited. A huge windstorm blows out of nowhere, toppling their umbrella over and ‘blasting them off’ (or, as they cry, ‘Yana kanjii!’ literally, "bad feeling").

Meanwhile, the bus has reached its stop. A young woman in a pink raincoat disembarks (Or refuses to board. It is unclear.) she converses with the driver for a few minutes and then the bus departs. Satoshi and friends yell after it, hoping it will stop, but end up falling down the hillside on the slippery grass. They land by the woman in pink just as the bus pulls away. Takeshi puts the moves on her, and Kasumi puts a stop to him, dragging him away by his ear as usual. The woman invites Satoshi-tachi to her cabin just a bit up the mountain to get out of the rain.

Meanwhile, the winding roads are no good for the bus in this fierce windstorm! As it rounds a tight corner, they wind sweeps it over the edge!
Lucky for them, someone is watching….

In a cave blasted out of the rockface of the mountain, Mewtwo is watching these events on a glowing green screen (One of Mewtwo’s little techno gadgets, no doubt.)
He extends a paw to the screen, and it glows blue. Outside, the bus glows the same blue colour. It turns and sets itself gently onto the road it was about to smash into. The driver looks about in confusion.

Back in the underground cavern, Pikachutwo asks Mewtwo why he did this. Mewtwo launches a rather long explanation, and Meowthtwo also wonders why Mewtwo would save the lives of these humans. Mewtwo tells them he made a very bad mistake once, and feels that even if he cannot right it, he can try.

We see Musashi, Kojiro and Meowth hanging from the remains of their umbrella from the cliffside.

Satoshi, Kasumi and Takeshi have gone with the Woman in Pink (who doesn’t seem to have a name) and are drying off inside her cabin, which is located right next to a waterfall. She serves them tea. Satoshi tells her his basic ‘I wanna be a pokémon master’ speech and explains they’ve heard there are excellent healing springs in the area. The storm clears up soon after and the Woman in Pink takes them outside to her deck, where she has a well system set up under the waterfall. She hands Takeshi a tin cup and tells him to try the water. He takes a sip and quickly dons on a look of ecstasy. He passes the cup to Kasumi, whose eyes become very large and sparkly as she exclaims how good it is too. Ash is confused as to what is wrong with them. He too takes a drink, but it seems to have very little effect on him. Takeshi and Kasumi yell at him for being stupid. Pikachu and Togepi both take a drink, and proceed to look as if they have been drugged. Kasumi suggests that later on, they take a canoe trip up the river to find the source of this waterfall.

That evening, by lantern light, the three paddle up the river. Kasumi says she thinks the trip is very romantic. They see a tree full of rediba lighting up their spots and float through a nest of kakuna hanging from trees. Kasumi is very frightened and single-handedly backpaddles them all the way out of the buggy area, screaming. Once they return to the cabin, Kasumi flops onto the porch edge. She thinks they’ll never see the source of the waterfall because she’s too afraid of bugs. Brock and the green haired woman point out that it must spring somewhere on the top of the mountain, as it is one of many waterfalls. The woman speaks about the lakes, waterfalls and the mountain itself. Pikachu points out a flock of butterfree as they fly past the full moon.

Mewtwo is also watching the butterfree as they fly. A slight smile on his face, he talks to Meowthtwo and Pikachutwo. (they seem to be close friends.) he seems a little sad, though…

Back at the cabin, a loud knock at the door interrupts Satoshi-tachi and their friend. A girl's voice calls from outside. The green-haired woman goes to the door and finds a tall dark-haired man and a young blond girl who looks about Satoshi’s age. (The man and green haired woman may know each other, but who can tell?) The woman with green hair and glasses invites them in. The blonde girl quickly introduces herself (she’s…very cheerful). Takeshi begins hitting on her, and Kasumi drags him away again. We find that the man is also researching the remarkable healing qualities of the spring water, he shows us a vial of it he has with him. The woman seems worried about something as she speaks to him. Suddenly, the crackling of firecrackers is heard, and out of the smoke come Musashi, Kojiro and Meowth! They recite their motto and do lots of pretty choreographed moves. Satoshi-tachi exclaim “Rocketto Dan!”, and the blonde girl watches the Rocket gang critically. Musashi and Kojiro use rubber whips to snag Pikachu from Satoshi’s shoulder! It cannot thundershock them and Meowth uses a remote control to call up their hot air balloon, which they have attached rockets to. They escape in it with Pikachu! As they do so, the storm clouds return to blow them off course.

Satoshi is very worried, he thinks the Rocket-gang will go to the top of the mountain. The green-haired woman shows them that she has rock-climbing equipment handy. They can go up the mountain at once. The man and young girl accompany them on the climb. The blonde girl seems very frightened as they climb. She tells the dark haired man how very brave he is. Suddenly, a huge boulder comes rolling down the hill! Our Heroes are right in its path. When the dust clears, the man calls the girl’s name, thinking she has been swept down the cliffside by the avalanche. But behind him Domino (the girl) cries a cheerful ‘Moshi moshi!’ (Hello there!). She has, impossibly, vaulted backwards over the rock as it comes at her. She giggles and says how exciting this is!

From inside the mountain, where windows and rooms have been carved out of the rock, Mewtwo watches the gathering storm clouds.

Outside, Team Rocket are floating in their balloon, lost and off-course. Suddenly, their rockets die, and they can’t fight against the wind.

The green haired biologist makes her way up a steep cliffside using rope and grappling hooks; the violent wind blows her around. Satoshi turns around and sees Team Rocket’s balloon buffeted against the mountain side, and their climbing rope becomes entangled in it, lifting them right off the cliffside. Dangling from the rope they are blown higher and higher! Domino notices this is a Team Rocket issued balloon and narrows her eyes. Musashi’s annoying Pokemon, Soonasu, pops out and yells, but she puts it back in its ball. After a time, the wind dies away.

Mewtwo notices the balloon as it blows across the grassy area on the mountaintop. Domino peers through a pair of binoculars down at the valley. They seem to have infrared and/or heat sensors on them. They focus on an energy signature…Mewtwo. They then return to computer image and focus, showing that this life sign is indeed the pocket monster in question. This image is transferred to Giovanni’s large computer screen.

Inside the castle-within-the-mountain, Mewtwo watches from a window, seeing the balloon pass by. He recognises the children from the fight the year earlier that he erased from their memories. His clone Meowth and Pikachu dash up asking what is happening.

Back in the room with the large computer, Sakaki sits in his chair with Persian at his side. Thinking to himself that Mewtwo will once again be under his control, he crushes his gin glass in his hand. We see that this room is actually inside a large helicopter en route to Mewtwo’s mountain home.

The narrator cuts in, as images of Mewtwo, Meowthtwo and Pikachutwo appear, followed by Satoshi hanging from the rope and all the others. It then focuses on the moon. ‘To be continued’
