This Clinton Crap (Moral Judas)

What good would a site full of opinions be if I didn't weigh in with my thoughts on the current fiasco in Washington D.C.? As I start writing this, all I can say is this one promises to be a long one. And remember, if you strongly agree or disagree with anything I have to say, you're welcome to e-mail me using the link on this page, or fill out the survey on the page with that name.

Now, where to begin?  There are so many plots and subplots going on with this issue that it's difficult to pick a place to start. Is it all about sex and personal lives, or is it something more? Is this just a partisan railroading, or is it a matter of holding the President to the same laws you and I must obey? Is it a case of "everyone does it, so why worry", or "two wrongs don't make a right"? Does it boil down to "do what is right" or "save out political ally at all costs"? With luck, I'll give you my thoughts on all of those points and more in this little essay of mine. But for now, I guess I'll start with the first point I mentioned, the issue of whether what went on is the President's personal business, or is this something more?

For starters, let me tell you that I am all for private matters staying private. I certainly don't want people digging around in my garbage trying to find dirt on me. What I do in the privacy of my own home is just that - private. That applies to everyone in this country, as far as I am concerned, including the President. If he wants to commit adultery with a girl barely older than his daughter (yet still past the age of consent), that's his business, no matter how personally abhorrent I find that behavior. Hell, if he wanted to have gang bangs with a Georgetown sorority, it's no concern of mine. When you say his personal affairs are his business and no one else's, you'll get no argument from me. However, there's more to it in this case. The President was called before a grand jury in a sexual harassment case involving Paula Jones. Whether or not you think he should have been forced to face that case while in office is moot now, since the Supreme Court itself stated he must. And as we have learned, while testifying before that grand jury, the President lied. He sat there, under oath, and knowingly and willfully gave answers he knew to be false. He committed perjury, which, ladies and gentlemen, is a crime. A crime for which you or I would be punished, and punished severely.  And since this is the United States, where no man or woman, including the President, is above the law, he should also be punished, and severely so. He should be removed from office.

There are many other "high crimes and misdemeanors" of which Mr. Clinton stands accused, of course, including obstruction of justice, abuse of power, etc. Any of these could, and if guilty, should lead to his removal from office. I'm not going to comment on each and every one of the charges, as that would take up a huge amount of space, and you can read opinions on both sides from people much more eloquent than am I, all over the net. The point is, the President has broken the law, the same law each and every one of us are expected to obey, and which he himself swore to uphold as the nation's highest law enforcement officer. If the law does not apply to him simply because he is President, then why not just appoint him king, and make it so that no law at all holds any meaning to him or the office? You think I am exaggerating? Then tell me, where do we draw the line?  If it's okay for him to commit perjury, to basically mock the court, then where do we stop?

"Well", you say, "everyone lies about sex! You'd do it too, to protect your family!"  This is true, but only to a point. First and foremost, I'd not commit adultery, and therefore would never be in this particular situation. I'm not that incredibly and unbelievably stupid. And second, where everyone may lie about sex to coworkers, fraternity brothers, and the like, once you put your hand on the Bible and say you'll tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, "so help me God", then that had best be what you do. Lying at the office is one thing, lying under oath is another all together. One is being stupid, being a braggart, the other is a crime. This isn't the same as if the President was talking with, say, Dick Morris, and claimed he never "had sexual relations with that woman". He took an oath to tell the truth to God, our courts, and the people of this country, and lied anyway. He wasn't interested in protecting his family at that point. He was interested in saving his ass. Like all liars, when cornered, his first instinct was to lie some more. And as happens to all liars eventually, he got caught. And as should happen to all liars when they get caught, he should be punished. He lied under oath, and as stated in the paragraph above, he should be removed from office. So don't give me that "everyone does it" line of crap. Not everyone does it, especially under oath.

So now, we have Clinton apologists finding any and every reason they can to keep him in power, no matter how bogus the claim. They'll grasp at any straw to keep their man in place. With all the facts pointing against the man, with a confession of guilt that he did, in fact, commit perjury, they still are willing to ignore all of that, just to keep him in office. They are more than happy to turn their back on their morals, on their sense of right and wrong, just to make certain Bill Clinton is still the President of the United States. These people are playing the role of Judas to their own morals. They will sell everything in their soul for the forty pieces of political silver that Clinton can provide.  They care squat about right or wrong, so long as 'their man" is the man on top. They don't have the courage or moral strength to admit that he committed a crime and should be punished, and then work to find a decent man or woman who also holds the same political ideas as do they to replace him. They would rather expend all their energy defending a common criminal and known liar. It's sickening, and it's sad.

I could go on for days, digging deeper into this, but I'd end up with a page that was a few terabytes in size. It's just my opinion, but this issue is not about sex. It's nothing about sex. It is about criminal action, including perjury, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, abuse of power, and many, many more. If Bill Clinton had any balls at all (rather than having drained them on the little blue dress) and actually cared as much about the country and "the children" as he would have us think he does, he'd resign. But he doesn't. He cares about Bill Clinton, and only Bill Clinton. Since he is not going to resign, he must be forcibly removed from office through the process of impeachment. If you can provide an argument against impeachment that doesn't rely on the "everyone does it" or "he did nothing wrong" idea, I'd love to hear it. If that's the best you can do, then I suggest you take a long look inside yourself, and ask yourself just what kind of person you want as the leader of our nation. Are you really willing to sell your soul for this man?
