Profile
Nickname: Max.

DOB: 16/8/44.

Famous Lookalike: My wife Sue always reckoned Denis Lillee.

Favourite Sportsman: Wayne Pearce.

Favourite Food: Mixed grill

Favourite Drink: Beer.

Favourite Movie: The Al Jolson Story. ( Showing my age.)

Favourite S/L Player: Robert Holland,” Dutchie ”has been through thick & thin with the club. Of more recent times myself and several other former grade cricketers have got together to play golden oldies cricket with Dutchie under the banner of Newcastle Lords Taveners. Our most recent trip was April 2006 to Sri Lanka, two other former test players took part in that event they being Doug Walters& Trevor Chappell, great to have these fellows along playing with and against us mere mortals. On the final night of the festival in Sri Lanka, Dutchie was named Personality of The Festival a fitting tribute to a man who encourages all players.

Best Cricket Moment: Playing Belmont at Millar Oval and having former Randwick & State player Ron Crippen caught at short mid wicket” hooking,” by Ian “Winkie” Neale. Two balls earlier Crippen hit a ball to the point boundary , reckon the grass almost caught on fire it went that fast. Playing in the second grade semi final at University oval 1973/74 on wet wicket, against Cardiff/Boolaroo which we lost by a couple of runs. That year Southern Lakes won the club championship.

Funniest or Most Embarrassing Moment: A game at Awaba Oval having to do square leg umpire duties ( only one official ump arrived). Playing Charlestown , Des Pond batting for us facing George Claridge (who was fairly quick) us three down for not many,Des being forced back onto his stumps by short pitched bowling, eventually lost his cap which according to them knocked a bail to the ground. I missed it and on appeal gave Des not out, after receiving a barrage of verbal abuse, I left the field telling them what they could do with the handle of the bat I had. Dutchie has a slightly different version of this story.
Favourite ground No 1 Sportsground.

Least Favorite Ground: Charlestown.

Highest Score: 50 something, in second grade.

Best Figures: 5/57 v,s Belmont 1st grade  7/75 v,s Stockton 74/75.2nd grade.
