| Once there was a gentle man who's presence blessed this simple land While walking slowly hand in hand He was born one of three in the Texas hill country And felt the changes in America's heartland when he spoke often Of the travels in his life so soften'd Through his gentle gait and my mothers loving grace He saught life through it's gentle pace Stand tall, proud ,honor and dignity were his virtues Spread all about us, brothers four For in our our lives he taught us to soar high in life's dreams And become true men of destiny it seems In his youthful years he did travel to some foreign lands While the world was at war And Alas! he came back home to knock on his mother's door Where reaching arms were waitng to embrace him once more Over the timeless years when I was young He consoled me in all my fears For our tree of life had been planted I loved this man And never took him forgranted Sometimes I go back to that place when Heaven made it's call And stand in silence;over it all Then I walk beside and hold that growing tree My heart feels honored to still see It growing there; proud and tall For all my children to touch and feel his spirit ;surrounding us all And I know he is not long 'nor faraway from my heart For he and I will never part.. |
