Bunnies at my House

How about some summer pics to take away those winter doldrums? Here is a look at the bunnies that took refuge in my yard this past summer. I know, I know, they're pests...but aren't they adorable? Baby bunnies, for goodness sakes!

Momma bunny thought my yard was a great place to keep her little bunnies ;-) I wasn't able to mow much because of the spring flooding, so when I did get out there, I found some guests :-)

Needless to say, I stayed away from there for the next couple of weeks. Musn't bother little babies, or it will upset momma. I'd check on them periodically, and they seemd to be doing fine :-) Momma bunny would cover them with her own fur, bits of lawn from other parts of the yard, and whatever else she could find to line her nest.

Momma bunny, wondering who the idiot with the camera is ;-) I often wonder if she was trying to present herself as a target to me, thinking she could lead me away from her babies (I know that there are certain species of bird that excel in this maneuver- fake a broken wing, hop around, lead the predator away from the nest).

At the end of the second week, I checked on the nest, and panicked! The babies were gone! Not to worry, though: the little ones were alive and well, and treating my yard as their own :-)

My yard is completely fenced in, but that did little to stop momma or the babies :-) They could come and go as they please.

I'm only sorry I didn't have a garden for them to dig up and eat on me. I'd have laughed, and taken pictures of that too ;-)
