Flag burning.

I once heard a U.S. service man speak about how he was treated in a North Vietnam prison camp during the war. His captors tried to "break" him any way they could. When his captors tried to use film of american student protesters burning the american flag, to show his how bad america was and how the people in america didn't care about him or what he was fighting for, it only strengthened his will not to "break".

The service man told his captors that what they had just showed him was exactly what he was fighting for. He was, in fact, fighting to make Vietman a free country where the citizens can demonstrate against the government. The service man knew that if a citizen of North Vietnam burned the flag of North Vietnam on the streets of North Vietnam that they would most likely be shot on the spot.

I wish I could tell you the name of this brave service man and where he is now but, I don't know that I ever knew his name. If I could find him today I would urge him to tell his story to the american people one more time in the hopes that it might show them just how free we are and just how important that freedom is.

I personally tend to look at the direction that thing are moving to see if it is getting better or worse. The banning of flag burning seems to move our freedom in the wrong direction. Do we really want to become more like North Vietnam?

A short time ago, while trying to boost Al Gore's poll ratings, President Clinton told us that Al Gore was the indispensable person that was working with the Russians on the roll that they would play in bringing an end to the conflict and, also what roll they would have in the peace keeping effort. Now, the Russians have take over the airport that was to be the head quarters for the whole peace keeping force. I don't see any of the media asking Al Gore "What the hell did you tell them?". My guess is that the national media never did believe the Clinton lie about Al Gore's importance in this or any other arena.

Investor's Business Daily reports that from 1993 to 1997, federal officials requested 2,686 wiretaps. The Justice Department approved all but one: a tap in 1996 on the phone of Wen Ho Lee, now a suspect in the theft of nuclear secrets from the Los Alamos National Lab.

This one doesn't even need any spin from me.

As I read the newspaper on Sunday morning this week, I noticed an article about the slave trade in Sudan. It talked about how the "do gooders" have been buying slave and setting them free. The cost for most of the slave that they (the do gooders) have freed was very low. None of the slaves cost more than $100 U.S.

Sound like a good plan right. People are freed at very little cost. What could be better.

The effect of the "do gooders" was: The people who run the slave trade went out to get more slaves for the "do gooders". They did this by raiding the villages of rival peoples. The cost of slaves went up due to the increased "demand" for slaves. This caused the number of slave in the Sudan to go UP.

Another case of well meaning people making a bad situation worse.

The other thought that came to my mind was: Why are we messing around in Yugoslavia. Which do think is worse:

  1. Getting kick out of your house and having to go to another country.
  2. Being caught by slave traders and sold to the highest bidder to herd their sheep FOR LIFE.
It seems to me that slavery is much worse. If we are going to do something about bad situations in the world, shouldn't you start with the worst ones.

Monica, is Willy's willy warped?

Why has no one asked Monica Lewinsky about the president's private parts? I think that the answer would be news worthy ether way. If Monica said that the president's equipment IS oddly curved, then, Paula Jones is credible. If Monica said that it is as straight as an arrow, then, this would beg the questions: Did the president have it medically straightened, or, was Paula Jones lying?

I think that Monica's answer to this question would make the news even on a heavy news day, such as those of the past two weeks.

Just a little food for thought.

The U.S bombed Milosevic and the Serb army in Bosnia because the Serb had a small area of Bosnia in which they had a majority in the population. The Serbs were FOR taking that small part of Bosnia and separating it from Bosnia.

The U.S. is now bombing Milosevic and the Serb army because they are AGAINST the Albanians taking the small part of Yugoslavia, in which they have a majority, and making it separate from Yugoslavia.

In both cases the majority in the small section of the sovereign nations wanted to leave the that nation.

It seems that the U.S. is on both sides of the issue.

Did you know that:

The U.S. military is about half the size it was in 1988. The army is down to 10 divisions with 20,000 people in each. The Clinton administration is pushing to change the number of people in a division to 16,000. That way we would have over twelve divisions. In 1988 we had 23 divisions.

Who was the last world leader to bomb Belgrade. [Hint: He started his bombing on Easter weekend also.]
