FEBRUARY 2003

Kingsford policy regarding absences and tardiness

Kingsford has been having problems this year with an unacceptable number of absences and tardies. Though things may occasionally prevent timely attendance, consistency late students interfere with their own learning, and the academic climate of  the entire school.

As such, effective immediately, non-bus riding students arriving in the classroom after 8:10 will be marked  as late. Students with two or moretardies in one week will be referred to the school counselor for further action.

In addition to CTBS practice in reading, language, and math, we will be working on the following:

  • Reading ~ Family Photos: summarizing the story, story maps

  • Language ~prefixes & suffixes, antonyms & synonyms, writing process

  • Math ~ time, two-digit addition and subtraction with and w/o  regrouping

  • Social Studies ~ Unit 2--family and ancestors

  • Science ~ Round & Round /Earth & space science

  • Study Skills ~ restate the question in answers --  highlight key words in problems and instructions, then check back to ensure that the problem was answered completely and/or that all instructions were followed.

Our class now has secure courseware access at our website.  Courseware allows students email access, the ability to retrieve and send assignments on line, post to bulletin boards, all from home or library computers.
All home assignments posted on our communications site will be optional for extra credit. School-based assignments are not optional.

Please encourage students to use this as a  learning tool. Log-on and password instructions will be sent home.
