July 28, 2000

It's been nearly a month since my last entry. Guess I'm overdue on one, eh? I'm a little bit tired since work was hellish this evening, so I won't be elaborating too much even though the last month has been busy and there's quite a bit to write about. SOrry if ya feel gypped, but hey, I gotta have some parts of my life that are just for me, right? Right.
That said, the first big hoo-hah of July for me was getting pulled over the night of the release of Harry Potter 4. Work was crazy busy (we stayed open until 1 am to sell the book) and when I finally started heading for home at 2:30 am, I got pulled over about 3 minutes from my house. Great timing on the part of the North Brunswick police, lemme tell ya. They pulled me over for being unregistered, then informed me that I have a suspended NJ driver's license. Thing is, I don't, nor have I ever had a NJ license. I do, however, have a very valid MA driver's license, but since their computer kept saying otherwise, I got a ticket/summons. We'll see how that goes. But what really sucked about all of that is: I was supposed to drive my Death Race team the following day. So when I got home at 3:30 am, I called Dave in tears and left a message on his machine saying that I couldn't do Death Race, my car got impounded. He called in the morning and told me it was cool, Renee was going to rent a minivan, and I could still be on the team. I was exstatic, because I had been looking forward to this all summer.
Death Race was AWESOME. We dubbed our team Electric Mayhem (after the rock band from the Muppet Show). We got through the race in 6 & 1/2 hours, and won. We were the first Death Race team consisting of seven people to race, and also the first team of seven to win. We fucking RULE. We had a lot of advantages over the other teams, however: 3 cell phones, a laptop with a wireless modem, a full set of encyclopedias, phone books, dictionaries, a whole lotta brains, and a driver who knew the area so extremely well that some clues we found were solved in a matter of seconds. I can't wait until the next race in October. It's going to be sooooo much fun. :)
My vacation began the following weekend. A few days prior, i began feeling ill, and arguing with myself about whether it was illness or allergy. I still don't know. I wound up taking my last day of work before my vacation off because I felt so completely horrible. Fortunately, I shaped up over the next couple of days, and Bill came up to visit for the weekend. We had a lot of fun, as it is to be expected when we get together. I subjected him to karaoke, and despite my illness, I apparently didn't sound too bad. :) We didn't do any traveling ( i had planned to take him to NYC, but never quite felt up to it in the three days he was here) but we watched a bunch of movies, drank a lot of coffee, and had a really awesome time. His time here was too short, in my honest opinion, but he had to go back to work. Lucky him. :P
After Bill went back home, I spent a couple of days milling about, doing a whole lot of nothing, and spending time with Liam and Rob. We were scheduled to leave for Boston on Thursday evening, but I was so bored with sitting around with nothing to do that by the time Tuesday night rolled around, I suggested we leave early. "How early?" Rob asked. "Uh.... Now?" I replied. So, we went. I guess it was a good idea, going a couple days early, but I was ready to come back home by saturday. I was pretty sick of my mother and most of the idiot band of drunken relatives that stopped by to visit. Since Rob got his enourmous bonus check on friday, we went on a mad shopping spree... We got a new tv (two, actually; my parents gave us one as well) a surround sound system, a new VCR, a mess of DVD's (all italian horror, except Army Of Darkness and Life Of Brian), a HUUUUGE Matrix poster (which looks quite lovely in my living room, but i think it needs a frame pretty badly), I indulged in some glittery makeup, and Rob got some Pogues CD's. Somehow, we managed to blow it all (we paid some bills, as well) and I didn't end up able to get the new tattoo I've been yearning for. I guess I'll get it eventually. :(  I guess it was okay as a whole.... We got to go out without the baby a lot since my folks were more than willing to watch him for us. Rob got up and sang twice at karaoke! I was floored, and he was actually pretty good at it. The thing that sucked about this vacation though was that it wasn't all that restful. Liam was waking up at 5 and 6 am every day, which is unlike him. And we were trying to keep ourselves busy because being in the house, mother home or not, is boring as hell. So I came back to work and home feeling just as stressed out as before. Oh well. That's life. And, that was my past month in a nutshell. I know it ain't Survivor (though it feels like it to me sometimes) or Big Brother, but Stay tuned for more. I'll be back on the air at some point. :)
