jeeze. i just wrote about half of this journal entry and lost it because of some weird malfunction in this pagebuilder window. Now is as good a time as any to think about learning html, I think. Grrr. so let's see how well I can rewrite what I just wrote. I'll probably end up condensing because I'm already goddamn sick of writing.
so here I am, for the first time in two, maybe three weeks, writing in this journal. Yes, I have quite a bit of material to write about, but I'll be keeping most of it to myself, because two or three weeks is too much material to write about in one entry. And maybe I just want to keep some things for me. Me. ME! Dammit. Deal with it. :)
So what's happened?
We moved. Got our own place. It's gorgeous. It's big. It's in a kinda shitty neighborhood, but oh well. The neighbors are nice, but interestingly weird. And our landlord is also very cool. The move went smoothly; more smooth than any other move I have ever had to deal with. We had everything unloaded and unpacked within the first few days. It's kinda empty; we don't have everything we need and all our furniture is ugly, but you make do with what you've got. I went to Ikea yesterday and that made me long for a few thousand bucks so I could do up my dwelling right. Oh well. Soon. Eventually. Hopefully. :)
(The last paragraph was condensed from an original 3 paragraphs, but it's no big deal, and probably wasn't all that interesting to begin with.)
So I finally got to meet Bill this last weekend, in person. That was a real treat. I was happy to discover that as much as we click online, we click in person too. We had a really good time, and managed to pack a lot of fun stuff into the weekend. Friday was pretty normal, we hung out and did boring everyday shit, like grocery shopping. :) Saturday, we trekked into NYC for the Fangoria Weekend Of Horrors, which was very cool. I wish I'd had some money to spend, because there was a lot of cool shit for sale there. But the highlight of the day was this:
I met Michael Williams.
Yep, that's right. Mr. "I kicked the damn map in the creek" himself. He was really cool, very funny. I didn't get to talk to him much, but I did ask him a couple questions. I also got his autograph and Bill took a picture of me with him. (I'll put it up as soon as Bill sends it to me.) Some observations: Troma girls are hot, and so is another starlet I was fortunate to witness, a sweet, hot little thing named Tina Krause. I'm still walking around with a drool cup three days later. Wow. I mean... wow. :) We got to see a BWP parody, "The Blair Bitch Project." It was pretty funny; not the funniest thing I've ever seen, but very entertaining, nonetheless. Sean Cunningham was also a speaker, the last of the day. He was pretty cool; he talked a lot about "Freddy vs. Jason" and the other newest Friday the 13th project called "Jason X". A real learning experience, all in all. :) We didn't wander New York too much; it was pretty cold, and poor Bill was visibly shaking a lot of the time. He had to buy gloves and a hat, and I had to take up the rest of the slack by hugging him a lot. :) There, I've now done my duty as a good friend. When the convention was over for the day, we headed home. I found an ODB poster that needed a home, and then we met Gramps. Gramps lives at Penn Station, and I gave him 75 cents for letting Bill and I stand by his heater. He was grateful for that, and so was I, and I'm sure Bill was the most grateful. He was definately unprepared for the cold, and I feel bad, because we had been having an unusually warm winter until just the day before he arrived. Luck of the draw, I guess. At least it didn't snow. We got back to new brunswick sometime around 7, maybe later, and hung out with Rob for a little while before heading back out for more adventure. I absolutely had to make sure that Bill did not leave New Jersey without having a dutch coffee with me at the Inkwell. No hang out session with me is complete without that. :) I'm not sure how long we were there, but I think it's safe to assume that it was easily an hour and a half, maybe two hours. It's pretty easy to get comfortable there and hang out for hours, especially if you're with someone you have good conversations with. I don't even really completely remember everything we talked about. A lot of movie and music stuff. I probably did some bitching about the state of my friendship with a certain person I'm not liking too much lately. It's all a blur now. I hate that. We got lost driving home. Well, not lost... we were going the right way. We just went the long way, and an unfamiliar way. I showed him the beach, but we didn't stay long; it was way too cold and windy for that. We got back to the apartment sometime after 2 am, and we wound up pulling an all nighter, watching movies and shooting the shit. Sunday was a rough day to get through since we had no sleep. I think we were both operating on willpower and caffeine, and nothing else. I took him to Red Bank, which I had planned to do for quite a while, since it's one of my favorite places to go. We went to see "Being John Malkovich", but I conked. Thank god for home video, because I suppose that's how I'll get to see that one. :) It was an interesting day. I was a bit quiet and introspective, as I am always inclined to do when I've had no sleep. Nevertheless, when I wasn't sleeping (heh, heh) we were doing a good job of getting to know each other as actual people and not as text on a screen. Bill is a great guy. I'm very fortunate to have him as a friend, and still kinda bummed out that he's gone now. There's few people who you will ever feel a strong and genuine connection with, and it sucks when they're 2000 miles away from you. Life goes on, however, and I'm sure we'll get to do this again. Hopefully in better weather. :)
