His Story

Sparkles became part of our family about 10 years ago. It was just before Christmas, and my friends cat had just had a kitten (Sparkles).

When Sparkles first came into my life, I was staying with my parents. (while I was trying to find an apartment)

I would visit my friend everyday (just to see this little kitten). It broke my heart to see such a small helpless kitty all alone in a box with no Brothers or Sisters to cuddle up to. So I would sit with him and cuddle.

My friend was going to be away over the holidays and asked me to take care of the kitten while he was gone. Being a cat lover, I jumped at the opportunity to take the kitty home.

I said yes to taking the cat, even though I knew what my parents would say.
Mom and Dad had decided long ago, that they were not going to have any more pets in the house. (I grew up with always having a cat).
They made it very clear that once my friend returns home, the kitten goes back.

After the Christmas holidays, the kitten was still with us. Mom and Dad often would ask me when I was planning to see my friend again, reminding me that I had something that I needed to "return".

I could tell that my parents were giving into the idea of having a cat stay with us, it was only a matter of time.

A few month went by, and Mom and Dad were still joking with me about returning the cat, The cat that my Dad had now named "Sparkles".

Sparkles became a real part of the family. He was one of those cats who loved to cuddle and he purred all the time.

Dad was very sick and Sparkles would always stay by his side. When Dad was up pacing the at night in pain, Sparkles paced with him.

When I final found an apartment that I could afford, I had to make a painful decision. I decided to leave Sparkles behind with Mom and Dad. Dad was so sick and having Sparkles around really seemed to make him happy.

Although Sparkles lived with Mom and Dad, he was still very much a part of my life and always in my heart.

Sparkles lived a very good life with Mom and Dad, he was truly treated like a KING.

In the summer of 97, Sparkles was killed by a red fox while outside in the front of my parents house. My poor Father woke up to find him on the front lawn. I can't begin to tell you how much it broke all of our hearts.

Dad buried Sparkles in the backyard and planted extra flowers in the garden that year.

Sparkles death was a great loss for our whole family, a loss that only other pet owners would ever understand. He was not "just a cat".

Now my friend is gone...I miss his purr (a purr that you could hear all the way from the other room). I miss the way he would wrap his paws around my arm so I wouldn't stop patting him.
I miss the way he could tell when my father was not feeling well, and would stay by his side. I miss the way he could tell when someone was "down".

I miss everything about him.

It is very painful to look at his pictures. Making this website has been very emotional. I think only another animal lover will understand the reason for this page.

Sparkles, I carry you in my heart every day. Until we meet again at Rainbow Bridge

Now you know how I got my "NIC".
