| Many. many people have researched the Dunham family tree, so I would first of all like to thank all of you whose web sites helped me so much with the older information, and for finding sources. I would also like to thank Amherst College for loaning me The History of Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, Massachusetts, in Three Volumes, by Charles Edward Banks, M.D. I would recommend to anyone who is financially able to buy the set, and I have also seen reproductions available on eBay. This set is absolutely invaluable not only for research on the history of the Dunham family and its branches, but but also contains valuable history of the foundation of this country and our family's many contributions to its early history. Please note that I also borrowed a copy of A History of Barnstable County by Deyo, but there is no mention of any Dunham in that book. Regardless, it has a lot of good history in it and our family was there (Jonathan was a pastor at the church in Falmouth); it is available to read online here and here. I am including two trees: one that I created, and another created from Reunion, the family tree program for Macs. A few notes on my own tree: all descendants of Cornelius Dunham (3) are from personal sources such as family bibles, etc. Deacon Jonathan Dunham's descendants are noted in many reliable sources; his ancestors, however, are a little trickier, so I mention only his father, Richard Dunham. I will give you all the hard facts I have. Here is the order of my ancestral line: Deacon Jonathan Dunham (1), Jonathan (2), Jonathan (3), Cornelius (1), Shubael, Cornelius (2), Cornelius (3), Zachary Taylor (Z.T.), Ralph Winifield (R.W.), and Donald Dunham. This tree focuses mainly on ancestors and descendants of Cornelius Dunham (1797-1865) - I realized that if I start mentioning everyone I'll never get anything up on line - I'll just be sitting doing data entry all day long! I have tried to add links to as many ancestors as possible, including Cornelius Dunham, Jr., Sylvester Craig Dunham and Plato Dunham, (I found some biographies in an old book and thought they may be of interest), as well as links to historical information, places, and other interesting tidbits. With my own tree, I tried to come up with something that would be more understandable for the internet, as I find many of the family tree formats on the web difficult to follow - espcially after I've clicked on a few people! I started with the Dunham line because it's easy; you can see the Chase (look for one of the organizers of the Boston Tea Party - Lydia Chase's brother - in that tree!) and Athearn trees, but the Coffins, etc. I am still working on. It's funny - before I started really researching the Dunhams I was only interested in my Scandinavian heritage. I've learned that everyone in my family tree has something extraordinary about them, and that some of my ancestors even changed the course of history One more thing: although I attempt to be as careful as possible, creating these trees is extremely tedious and mistakes can easily be made. I have tried to correct or note any mistakes by the original author, but again, after having added so many names, it is not always possible to avoid mistakes. I appreciate your understanding. If you notice any glaring mistakes, you can contact me at spcmiller@yahoo.com. |
