Old One-Room School House - Crawford County, Iowa
This is the one-room schoolhouse where many Dunhams, O'Banions, Pedersons and others went to grade (and I believe middle) school.  It was a working schoolhouse at least until the 1950s.  Unfortunately, it has been sold to a private owner, and has fallen into disrepair;  it was built well, so it could be saved. It would be a real shame to lose this bit of Crawford County history.  Click here to learn more about Iowa one-room schoolhouses; click here to get directions to this one.
Clockwise from above: 1) back view of schoolhouse; 2) view from the main road; 3) view from the corner of 130th and O'Banion Road; 4) textbook that was rescued from the schoolhouse.  Education has always been very important to our family; Cornelius opened one of the first schools in the county (prior to 1865), and also sent Z.T. to school in Illinois.  Click here to read more about the history of Dunlap schools.
