“You were saying, Rubé?” asked the one with the glasses; “Nothing, Alma, we were just talking about weapons of choice…you know…the usual…”her words drifted in a somewhat nervousness manner. “Yes, the usual…” Alma attention had left Rubé and brought onto Murdoc. “Good evening, Murdoc. Welcome to our home. I’m sure Rubé has been good company while you waited. Please take a seat.” She said casually.
He sat down, and surveyed who had come into the library. All those
he had met in the club were there. Rubé, first to greet him with her presence
was to the left of him; Alma whom he had just spoken to, facing him from the
chair across his; Rozanna stood by the window gazing to nothing in particular
and Nydia stood right of Alma’s chair.
“It’s nice of you to accept our invitation.” Rozanna said, still
looking at the sky, “don’t you love the night? I do, especially with the sky is
so black and the stars seem so… right. Don’t you?” ‘What nonsense is she
talking about?’ he looked at her with a somewhat puzzled expression, “yeah,
I guess.” He replied awkwardly. A few moments later, Rozanna turned to face
Murdoc and the others. “May we go out tonight? To the Blue Room? I promise,
I’ll remember to let them go after I’m done and even clean up after I’m done
playing, please?” she begged with an innocence child-like voice. “Let go of
who? Clean up what?” he thought.
“Any objections?” Alma asked. No one spoke. “All right, then off we
go. And for god’s sake leave the little girl act for your playthings.”
