Mom and Jim
James David Ludwig finally decided to leave the
warmth of his Mom's womb on May 12, 1969 at exactly midnight.
He had a full head of beautiful light brown frosty hair.
I was a little worried, his head seemed so large,but the doctors
assured me that it was a bit above average, but his hair just made
it seem larger, it was to his shoulders..
He had to grow into his head, and grow he did, 20 lbs by 6 mos. old,
30 lbs at a year.. He was named after my loving father, James Harrigan.
This was the first grandchild on both sides. My Dad wanted to be called
Big Jim and he called James "Jimbo". I had become quite ill when Jim
was 4 weeks old. My mother passed away when I was 14, and we didn't
have much of an extended family.. My Dad had just retired and my husband
had to work.. So, while I was hospitalized for 2 months, my dear Dad,
Big Jim completely took care of this infant. They bonded in such a way
Words can't explain.. When Jim was 15 months old, I gave birth to
Michael. Angel Michael died shortly after birth.. He weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz
and was born on August 21, 1970. I don't think I ever properly grieved
for Michael. I had been so sick after Jim's birth and missed out on
so much and of course, I was only 20 years old. Within 3 months, I was
pregnant AGAIN!! I was scared throughout the pregnancy,fortunately
all went well, and Kelly Lynn was born on August 18, 1971. Michael would
have been 1 year old the day I brought her home from the hospital.
Jim adored his baby sister, he was a wonderful baby.He was always mistaken
for a girl because of his long, frosty curls..He kept telling me he
wanted a baby brother, I guess you could say he got everything he wanted.
July 12, 1973, we were blessed with David..Jim was so protective of his
"baby brudder". Our family finally complete, we settled down.
Three babies under 4 was quite a handful. Jim was such a help to me,
he was so bright...
