This is the story of a young boy who can change his gender at will. He has a father who changes into a panda when splashed with cold water. The boy himself, Ranma Saotome, is a skilled martial arts exponent.

However did all this happen?

Actually, the whole story revolves around a curse - the Nannichuan Springs. It was all because of this infamous place that almost everyone would turn into something or other when splashed with cold water.

For example, when splashed with cold water, Ranma changes gender, Shampoo morphs into a cat, Genma (father of Ranma) changes into a panda, Mousse turns into a duck, Ryoga transforms into a cute black pig, etc etc. . .

Through a turn of events, Ranma becomes Akane's fiance. (even though she hates him) 
However, becoming Akane's fiance was the beginning of problems for Ranma, as he realised that Akane had lots of suitors at Furinken High, their school.

One of Ranma's rivals in love happened to be the ultra persistant Tatewaki Kuno. (shown on right) Or should I say Ranma's suitor? Kuno practically fell in love with Ranma (female) at first sight!

Ranma has numerous duels in Furinken High, one of which was with his other rival in love, Ryoga Hibiki. For some reason, Ryoga bears a grudge against Ranma that even Ranma himself  does not know. He too has been to the Nannichuan Springs & was kicked into the black pig spring by a mysterious girl who turns out to be none other than Ranma. 
Ryoga is also Akane's pet pig, P-chan.

Ranma himself also has numerous 'fans'. They also cause him much trouble as well, much to his exasperation. All of his 'suitors' claim to be his fiancees! 
 Shampoo was one of the first Ranma admirers to appear. She belonged to the Amazon-like tribe in China. According to the rules of the tribe, if anyone in the tribe got beaten by a female outsider, then that person (usually female) must kill that outsider to regain her honour. But, if the outsider happened to be a man, then she must marry him.
From then on, Shampoo chases Ranma relentlessly.

This series has a lot of fun & many jokes as well. Besides, it also shows how Ranma & Akane are progressing into their relationship gradually.
Will Ranma & Akane marry at the end? Will Ryoga finally have a girlfriend? Or will all the curses of the Nannichuan Spring be righted?

This series keeps you pondering. . .
