Dr Kate Goodwin’s Office,
Somerset General Hospital

“Kate,” Georgia says frantically as she bursts into the large, sprawling office.

Kate, writing notes on another case looks up from her oak desk. Her glasses perched on the bridge of her nose. “Oh Georgia, what’s wrong?”

Georgia walks over and sits in a seat in front of Kate’s desk. “I need you to run some tests.”

“Okay,” Kate replies as she places her pen on the desk. Noticing Georgia’s anxiety, Kate leans in. “Georgia, what’s wrong?”

Georgia wipes a tear away from the corner of her eye. “I…I found a lump.”

Kate removes her glasses. “Of course, I’ll schedule them immediately.”

“No, I don’t want some doctor doing them – I want you.”

“Georgia…”

“Please Kate,” Georgia begs. “Please. I couldn’t go through this with anyone else.”

Kate falls silent.

“Oh, if that’s how you feel about it...”

“No,” Kate replies. “No, I’ll do the tests. I’ll be with you all the way.”

“I’m scared Kate, what if it’s cancer?”

“Hey,” Kate says as she rises from the seat behind her large desk. “You’ll get through this, you’re strong. And if it is cancer, well, then we’ll just have to take everything one day at a time.”

As Kate walks over to Georgia, she opens her arms. Georgia hugs her best friend, seeking some form of comfort.

“It’ll be okay Georgia. It’ll all be okay.”

Charlotte Beaumont’s Apartment,
Somerset Springs Apartment Complex

As the golden sun rises over Somerset, Charlotte Beaumont looks out of her bedroom window. The scantly dressed woman holding a cup of coffee in her hands stands staring out across Somerset.

The eerie calm of the swamp begins to make Charlotte nervous. Looking at the bloodied interior of the taxi, Charlotte stares at the dead taxi driver. Looking over at the fuel tank, Charlotte checks to see if the petrol is being siphoned correctly. Noticing the floor of the taxi is now soaked with fuel, she walks over and pulls the tubing out of the petrol tank. Throwing the tubing into the taxi, Charlotte leans over the dead taxi driver and opens the glove box. Taking his lighter, she slams the door shut. Walking over to a nearby tree, she collects some fallen leaves. The dry leaves are brittle. Carrying them over to the taxi, Charlotte begins to pile them under the rear tire, next to the fuel tank. Taking the lighter, she lights a leaf and places it on top of the others. Watching the other leaves begin to burn, Charlotte stands up and places the lighter into her pocket. Walking away from the taxi, Charlotte picks up her luggage and heads out of the park.

As the fire begins to lick at the tires, it soon begins to dance up along the burning rubber. Suddenly the bloodied taxi explodes in a massive fireball as native birds flee the nearby trees, screeching and squawking. Charlotte stops in her tracks when she hears the large explosion. As a smile creeps along her face, she resumes walking.

“Stop it,” Charlotte hisses. “Stop thinking about it. You’ve done nothing wrong – nothing.”

Turning away from the window, Charlotte walked into the small living room. Placing her mug of coffee on the coffee table, she sat down. Picking up a remote control. Switching on the television, Charlotte picked up her coffee again and took a sip.

“And the search continues again today for missing taxi driver, Raul Saunders,” reports a reporter on television. “Mr Saunders was last heard from at 2:40 yesterday afternoon after picking up a female passenger.”

Charlotte’s face turns pale as she sits transfixed at the news.

“Police and volunteers are now searching for Mr Saunders and his taxi. Police are asking if anyone has any information please contact them immediately on 555…”

Switching the television off, Charlotte stared at the blank television screen in horror.

Delilah Café,
Spencer Street

Sitting in the lively café, Grace flicked open the Somerset Gazette. As she skimmed over the pages, she took a sip of her warm coffee. Placing her coffee back on the table, Grace continued to look over the paper.

“Excuse me ma’am,” a man standing behind Grace said.

Grace turned and looked at the man. “Yes?”

“I was just wondering if you’ve seen my glasses anywhere?”

“Ah,” Grace replies as she looks under her paper. “No sorry I haven’t.”

“Oh that’s okay. I’m John Cunningham.”

“Grace. Grace Greenwood.”

The two shake hands.

“Well it’s lovely to meet you Grace.”

Looking into John’s eyes, Grace smiles. “Won’t you join me?” Grace replies as she clears a space for John to sit.

“Oh, well if that’s okay.”

Grace can’t hide her joy as John walks over and sits opposite Grace.

The Cooper Residence,
20 Spencer Street

“What about red roses amongst a white rose bouquet?” Amy asked as she sat on her bed looking through wedding magazines.

Cuddling up to Amy, Brock gently kissed her on the neck. “I don’t mind baby, it’s your bouquet.”

“Well then what do you care about?”

“You and me and this big bed.”

“What?” Amy replies confused.

“I mean,” Brock begins as he props himself up with a pillow behind his back. “It’s such a big bed and I hate seeing all this space going to waste.”

A devilish smile creeps across Amy’s face. “You mean…”

“Come on Amy,” Brock says as he begins to unbutton her top. “Indulge me, just this once.”

“Brock I’ve got to go to work,” Amy replies as collects all the wedding magazines strewn across the bed and compiles them into one pile.

Brock continues to kiss Amy. As he undoes the final button on her blouse, he slowly slides it off of her shoulders.

Amy begins to breathe deeply as Brock begins to kiss down her neck. Closing her eyes, Amy knocks the pile of magazines off the bed as she lies down and passionately kisses Brock.

Spencer Street,
Somerset

Walking down the beautiful suburban street, Charlotte peeked out from behind her darkened sunglasses. Passing house after house, Charlotte came to a stop outside 18 Spencer Street. Looking at the house, Charlotte pulled a piece of paper out of her pocket.

Harry McLeod – 18 Spencer Street

“Nice house,” Charlotte said to herself as she gazed at the two-storey home. Suddenly the front door opened as Harry and Emma appeared in the doorway. Charlotte quickly walked away and hid behind a bush. Watching Harry and Emma, Charlotte’s eyes narrowed as Harry passionately kissed Emma goodbye. As Emma turned and walked down the path, Charlotte watched Harry, transfixed. Emma began walking down to the opposite end of Spencer Street. As Harry went inside, Charlotte walked towards Delilah Café.

“So you’re an executive,” Grace says impressed as she looks at John.

“Well to tell you the truth Grace, this year’s my last year. I’m not as young as I look.”

Grace laughs. “Oh John, you make me laugh.”

“Well at least that’s one thing we’ve got in common,” John replies as he watches Grace. “Say, is there a Mr Greenwood?”

“Oh no,” Grace replies a little embarrassed. “There hasn’t been a Mr Greenwood for sometime.”

“Good.”

“Excuse me?” Grace replies a little surprised at John’s reaction.

“Oh don’t get me wrong Grace, I’m all for sharing. But for such a beautiful thing like you I want you all to myself.”

Grace blushes.

“Are you doing anything tonight?”

“Ah…no I don’t think so, why?” Grace asks.

“Well I just thinking maybe you and I could go out for a nice meal before going to see a movie?”

Grace smiles. “That’d be lovely.”

Cinema 7,
Somerset Cinema Complex

“Here we are,” Cain says as he and Miranda arrive at their seats. “Row H, seats 4 and 5.”

“Thanks,” Miranda replies.

As Cain and Miranda take their seats, the cinema darkens. Miranda reaches over and takes Cain’s hand in her’s.

“Miranda I…”

“Shhh,” Miranda hisses. “Just watch the movie.”

Cain looks at Miranda and smiles.

“You’re such a forceful woman, you know that?”

“I know and that’s what you love about me.”

“Love? When did love come into the equation?” Cain asks sarcastically.

Miranda turns and faces Cain. “Honey, you really think I’d be here if I didn’t think there was something between us?”

“Well…”

“Trust me,” Miranda begins. “I have feelings for you Cain. I’ve had feelings for you for a long time.”

Cain sits in silence.

“And being here with you today, it…it’s one of those moments that you’ll remember for the rest of your life.”

“It’s only a Julia Roberts movie,” Cain jokes.

“And won’t you remember it for the rest of your life?” Miranda replies with a smile. “I mean who can ever forget a Julia Roberts movie. They’re so long and boring.”

“You wanna go?”

“Oh, I thought you’d never ask,” Miranda replies as she and Cain begin to sneak out of the movie.

“I thought every girl likes these chick flicks.”

As Miranda and Cain leave the cinemas, Miranda pushes Cain against the wall. Placing her hand on Cain’s crouch, Miranda smiles. “You should know by now Cain, I’m no ordinary girl.

Delilah Café,
Spencer Street

Sitting alone at a table, Charlotte skims over the menu.

“Hi,” Chloe says as she approaches Charlotte. “Can I get you anything?”

“You work here?” Charlotte replies.

“Oh no, I’m just filling in for my brother.”

Charlotte looks at Chloe. “I didn’t ask for your life story. You’re beautiful, what are you – a model or something?”

Chloe smiles. “Why yes actually I…”

“Great, another anorexic woman to make the men drool and the rest of the female species feel like crap.”

Chloe’s smile quickly fades.

“What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue?”

“No,” Chloe replies. “Did you want something?”

“Yeah, a coffee. Thanks.”

Chloe turns and walks away. Charlotte reaches into her pocket and pulls out her purse. Opening it, her face drops.

“Where is it?” Charlotte frantically hisses.

Dr Kate Goodwin’s Office,
Somerset General Hospital

“Well there’s definitely a lump there,” Kate says, removing a pair of plastic gloves as she walks back over to her desk.

Georgia, sitting on the examination bed on the opposite side of Kate’s office, begins to button up her top. “So? Where do we go from here?”

“Well,” Kate begins as she sits at her desk. “I’ll send you off for a mammogram to be 100% sure there is mass just under your armpit.”

“And then?” Georgia asks as she walks over and takes a seat in front of Kate.

“We’ll do a biopsy to see whether the mass is benign or not.”

“And?”

“And if it is we’ll begin you on treatment as soon as possible.”

“Treatment?” Georgia asks scared. “As in…”

“Well if the mass is malignant, we’ll begin you on a course of Chemotherapy followed by a round of radiotherapy. There’s also the option of radiation treatment and an operation to remove the mass.”

Georgia looks at the floor and begins to cry.

“Hey, hey, Georgia, everything will be okay, you’ll see,” Kate says as she walks over and comforts Georgia.

Georgia breaks down in Kate’s arms.
