New Residents For No 22 |
Just In... |
• Following reports last week that Natalie Bassingthwaighte was considering departing her role as Isabelle Miller McMahon, Spencer Street producers this week confirmed the actress has signed a six month extension to her contract which will see her remain with the series until August. |
The residents of Spencer Street are set to welcome a new family into the street with the announcement this week that producers have proceeded with their plans and signed both Jo Joyner and Paul Nicholls to permanent contracts. |
Joyner and Nicholls, who both make their debuts in the London based episodes to air in just a few short weeks, will make the permanent move to Somerset in a few months time when their characters, Ava and Dean Young, along with their two children Abigail and Felix (played by Eden Taylor-Draper and Ellis Hollins respectively), move into number 22 following Dean’s appointment as chief of emergency medicine at Somerset General Hospital. “A lot of thought and consideration went into bringing the Young family to Somerset,” says series producer, Darren Rowe. “They’re a great young family with a lot of potential, but there was literally no room for them in the street. So, after a lot of careful consideration and soul |
searching, a decision was made. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but I personally feel that the new family will add a new, younger, multi-generational dimension to the series and it was something that we just decided to run with.” Unfortunately, to make room for the Young family, the current contract cast was reviewed and a decision was made to write out Matthew Fairchild (played by Ingo Rademacher). “The decision to write Matthew out of the series wasn’t one that was made lightly, but given the way his story ends, I think it was a natural progression for Matthew to move out of the street,” adds Rowe. “Following the revelation of his secret, Matt decides he can’t live in Somerset any longer with everyone talking about him behind his back and decides its time |
to move on to pastures new.
“The door is left wide open for a return and, given he shares such a rich history with both April (Hunter Tylo) and Chelsea (Samia Smith), a return shouldn’t be ruled out.” Rademacher’s final scenes as Matthew will go to air in late March/early April while the Young family will take up residence in Spencer Street from mid-April. |

• Yet another new resident is set to call Spencer Street home with confirmation this week that former Hollyoaks star, Guy Burnet, has signed on to bring Noah Sinclair, the son of Sean (Dan Gauthier) and twin brother of Chelsea (Samia Smith), to Spencer Street for a permanent stay.
Noah, who makes his debut in the London episodes, will find himself immediately thrust into the middle of a fierce battle between April and Chelsea, but it’s his sizzling hot romance with a Spencer Street local that will have all the neighbours talking. |
