Episode Five: Aftermath

PREVIOUSLY

- GUNN “There’s no point pretending”

GUNN’s sister now becomes ANGELUS who stands up and walks up to GUNN

ANGELUS “My that’s a relief, I hate having to stay all secretive, talking in suggestive riddles really does my head in”

GUNN “You think you can do this, you think you can get me to kill my friends”

ANGELUS “I think I can. I know I want too, my all new armageddon’s a few years off, I could stand to have a little fun”

- The EMPLOYEE takes a metal box out of a drawer, cuts his finger and the blood drips onto the lid, opening it. Inside is a dial; “We better find the right level soon, because there’s not much more we can give him”

-DEMON “The soul, it has been sealed in place by the powers that be.”

DRUSILLA “NO! Take it out”

DEMON “I cannot, in fact even if I had not given him his soul years ago, he would have been granted one by now, he was destined to be the slayer’s champion”

- The Sound byte “We shall return your soul (from “Grave”) plays over the DEMON giving Drusilla her soul.

-DRUSILLA morphs into vamp face “SPIKE…..”she growls

ANGELUS “Of course”

DRUSILLA “What did they do to him, he was perfect, and they changed him” she starts pulling at her chains.

ANGELUS “It’s so obvious, I don’t know why I hadn’t seen it” he starts to laugh and turns into SPIKE (human form) “I’m your trigger”

- DEMON “It’s just I happen to agree with gypsy methods of revenge.” The DEMON starts to laugh as it dawns on the group what he means.

SPIKE “Kill him” then runs out of the cave, he sees the tyre tracks, and follows them.

- DRUSILLA goes into vamp face, we see ANGELUS behind GUNN.

ANGELUS “Showtime!”

DRUSILLA rips the chains out of the wall, throws GUNN against a wall and runs out the room.

- ANGELUS “Then what do you think you should do”

DRUSILLA “Kill him”

ANGELUS “Exactly”

DRUSILLA “Not just him, kill what made him like he is, kill them all, the council, the slayer, all of them!”

LONDON 1861

We see a small house, the view cuts to inside the house ANGELUS and DARLA are asleep in a bed, the camera goes over to in front of the fireplace where DRUSILLA’s corpse lies. Suddenly, she opens her eyes, she is shocked and runs out, slamming the door behind her, the noise wakes ANGELUS.

ANGELUS “Damn, she’s awake already” he quickly gets up, dressed and gives chase.

A church, DRUSILLA goes into the confession box.

DRUSILLA “Bless me my father for I have sinned”

We see ANGELUS running out of the house, he sniffs the air, DRUSILLA’s scent still present he runs towards a church.

DRUSILLA is now crouched outside the confession box, in vamp face, blood on her lips, crying. ANGELUS walks in.

ANGELUS “What did you do?”

DRUSILLA “the father” DRUSILLA sobs, “I killed him”

ANGELUS looks at the corpse “Such savagery, so early, imagine what you could become”

DRUSILLA “Then I did well?”

ANGELUS “You did very well”

DRUSILLA’s tears stop and the camera comes up on her face, she starts laughing, then as the camera pulls out we realise we’re looking at modern day DRUSILLA, she’s in the shade of a tree, sunlight all around her, still laughing.

We see OZ and FRED walk into LORNE’s bar, he’s standing at the bar drinking, he’s nervous, as FRED and OZ come into his view he shows he is relieved and hugs FRED.

LORNE “Oh, thank god you guys are back, what took so long”

OZ “Turns out evil demons aren’t that talkative”

FRED looks down, she’s a bit upset “not any more at least”

OZ “We did what was right, he was evil”

LORNE “Where’s SPIKE, wait, who’s evil, SPIKE’s evil!”

FRED “No, the demon that gave him his soul.”

OZ “He’s been busy”

LORNE “What do you mean”

FRED “DRUSILLA, he gave her a soul as punishment for getting him to try and kill an agent of the powers. SPIKE’s off looking for her”

LORNE “Oh god, this rings one too many bells”

FRED “I know we’ll have to find him”

OZ looks offscreen “Might not be too difficult”

FRED “What?” , the camera swings round to a window, we see SPIKE on the other side “Oh!”

SPIKE walks up to the door “realised something, I’m not that threatening anymore, need backup.”

OZ “Why”

SPIKE “Can’t track DRU, her scent, can’t find it, so I’m going to go pay a visit to Wolfram & Hart, they might know where she is, but I can’t exactly beat information out of people anymore, OZ, get your coat.”

END ACT

ACT TWO

DRUSILLA is lying down asleep under a tree, it is night-time. The camera pulls out to reveal BUFFY standing over her.

BUFFY “Look at you”

DRUSILLA wakes, she looks up, rubbing her eyes.

BUFFY seen blurred through DRUSILLA’s eyes “You’re pathetic”

DRUSILLA gets up “You poisoned his mind, infected him with your pure soul”

BUFFY “There’s nothing pure about the stuff me and your boy SPIKE got up to.” BUFFY laughs to herself, “But seeing you here, no question why he picked me over you.”

The two are now circling each other.

DRUSILLA “He picked you, hah, I broke it off with him. You were never what he wanted”
BUFFY “You seriously believe that, he knows you’re here, he knows of your, condition. You seriously believe that you still mean something in his life. We both know that if he found you he’d kill you”

DRUSILLA “I’m terrified of a giraffe! The reason he hasn’t come to find me is despite evidence to the contrary, SPIKE’s not stupid. He’s become a blot on the world, a shame to me, if we meet, I’ll kill him, he knows it”

BUFFY “You keep telling yourself that”

DRUSILLA “And you, you took what he was away from the world” DRUSILLA lunges at BUFFY and goes right through her, “What the….?”

DRUSILLA turns, ANGELUS is standing where BUFFY was looking down at her “What’s wrong”

DRUSILLA “The slayer, she was here”

ANGELUS looks around “I don’t see her anywhere, just forget about her, forget about SPIKE.”

DRUSILLA “That’s a good idea” DRUSILLA lies down and goes back to sleep.

ANGELUS looks down at her, “Yes, this is going to work perfectly”

END SCENE

SPIKE and OZ are walking through the village where W&H’s African HQ is located.

OZ “So what are you expecting me to do, just walk up to this GUNN guy and beat information out of him”

SPIKE “That’s the plan”

OZ “I’m not gonna do that”

SPIKE “And how often do things actually go to plan”

OZ “They used to, till I go to one birthday party, or nibbled on by a little kid”

SPIKE “Well none of us asked for this, roll with the bloody punches, if a situation calls for a beating”

OZ “But I don’t even know this GUNN. By sending me up there and beating DRUSILLA’s location out of him, you’re getting rid of the only one of us that we might one day need to pass under GUNN’s nose since he doesn’t know me.”

SPIKE “Trust me, he knows you”

OZ “How?”

SPIKE “They just do, probably got your whole life story somewhere, your band, the fact you’re a werewolf, even little old red.”

The two stop and walk behind a building, the W&H building is visible just a few doors down.

SPIKE “Anyway, they’ll recognise me a hell of a lot quicker than they’ll recognise you, this is as far as I’m going.”

OZ “Ok, I don’t plan to beat anyone anyway”

SPIKE “Then creep around, use that enhanced hearing of yours to try and pick something up”

OZ “Fine”

OZ looks round the corner then carries on walking towards the building.

LORNE and FRED are both sitting in the bar, it’s empty.

LORNE “What’s up with you, you’ve been in your this blue mood all day”

FRED “Oh, I’m just worried about SPIKE and OZ, they’ve been gone a while”

LORNE “mmhmm”

FRED “That’s all”

LORNE looks expectantly at FRED

FRED “really, that’s all.”

LORNE “Hello, empath demon”

FRED “I just don’t feel right about killing that demon in cold blood. It was so easy, he barely fought back”

LORNE “He was evil, he did try and take SPIKE’s soul away”

FRED “Yeah, but he put it there too”

LORNE “But he said he’d have a soul by now anyway”

FRED “I know, and I know that soul-less SPIKE isn’t much different to soul-full SPIKE, but what if his soul hadn’t been restored in time, the first could have destroyed the world”

LORNE “True, but I think what’s happened is what, for the most part, should have happened. You’ll get over this. Killing something, anything, in cold blood should hurt, prove’s your still human, which is good because you’re the only one we’ve got here”

FRED smiles a little “That’s true. I guess I can just hope that SPIKE knows what he’s doing.”

END ACT

ACT THREE

OZ creeps along a short corridor, leaning round a corner he sees a WOMAN sitting at a desk, the phone rings, OZ pulls his head back and puts hid ear to the wall as the WOMAN picks the phone up.

WOMAN “Charles Gunn’s office how may I help you”

Pause for response

WOMAN “No, I’m sorry Mr Gunn’s still in the hospital”

Pause

WOMAN “She damaged his back quite severely when she threw him against that wall, it was totally unexpected, the others that were in the room are fine, a few knocks and bruises but…..”

Pause

WOMAN “Sorry to go on, it’s been a long night, I’ll tell Mr Gunn to call you when he comes back”

Pause

WOMAN “No, noones seen her, it’s like she’s dissapeared”

END SCENE

DRUSILLA and ANGELUS are walking through jungle type area.

DRUSILLA “Do you know where he is then?”

ANGELUS “Who”

DRUSILLA “You know who, the curse on my name, the slayer’s champion.”

ANGELUS “SPIKE, yes I know where he is, trying to get a werewolf to beat information out of your current employer last I heard.”

DRUSILLA “I was wondering”

ANGELUS “Wondering what”

DRUSILLA “What happened to the Angel beast, when did you get back in control.”

A brief sign of panic flashes over ANGELUS’ face, “Er, not long ago”

DRUSILLA “How did it happen”

ANGELUS “Wolfram & Hart did it, that fool Angel thought he could do good there.”

DRUSILLA and ANGELUS continue walking

END SCENE

SPIKE is still standing behind the building, eyes closed.

OZ “Miss me?”

SPIKE “Took your bloody time mate”

OZ “That place is is a hell of a lot bigger on the inside, spent ages trying to find Gunn, only to find he’s in the hospital”

SPIKE “Why”

OZ “Turns out they did have DRUSILLA held here, after her ensoulment, but she apparently just suddenly went mad, through him up against a wall damaging his back then escaped”

SPIKE “Damn, him being in the hospital does kind of rule out the beating information out of him plan. Do they know where DRUSILLA went?”

OZ “They’ve had no contact”

SPIKE “Suppose we’d best head home, sun’ll be up soon, not much chance of catching her tonight.”

END SCENE

LORNE and FRED are in the bar, it’s closed, LORNE is picking up glasses and bottles from the table, FRED is pushing a broom around.

The phone rings and FRED runs to it “Hello” she says quickly.

OZ (over phone) “We’re on our way home, put the kettle on”

FRED “Don’t you ‘put the kettle on me’ where the hell have you been”

OZ (over phone) “Wolfram & Hart, turns out creeping around in there, not getting seen and listening in on phone conversations takes time.

FRED “Ok, see you soon. Did you find anything out”

OZ (over phone) “No, only new thing we know is that GUNN’s in hospital”

FRED “Oh, well, bye”

FRED puts the phone down “They’re on their way home”

LORNE “Well that’s a relief, you can calm down now”

FRED “I suppose I can”

The doorbell rings

FRED “That was quick” she goes to the door and opens it “Willow!”

WILLOW “hey, can I come in?”

END ACT

ACT FOUR

SPIKE and OZ are walking out of a jungle area, it is still night.

SPIKE “How’d she sound?”

FRED “Anxious, but I think they’ve had an uneventful night”

SPIKE “Like us then”

DRUSILLA (off screen) “Oh, I’m hurt”

The camera, and SPIKE and OZ turn to see DRUSILLA standing behind them.

DRUSILLA “A reunion with your newly ensouled sire and you call it an uneventful evening”

SPIKE “DRU, you’re seeming” worry enters his tone “uncharacteristically together”

DRUSILLA “The soul has cleared my mind, the pain is searing, but not as much as the pain you cause me”

SPIKE “What?”

DRUSILLA “You were legend, and I was your sire, yet you let yourself be humanised, you begged for a soul. The pain you and all your little friends cause me vastly outmeasures the pain of the people I killed”

SPIKE “DRU I don’t want to hurt you”

DRUSILLA “You really couldn’t in that form”

OZ “but I could” OZ goes into his semi-transformed state and rushes at DRUSILLA

DRUSILLA “The wolf? The two start fighting”

SPIKE “OZ what are you doing?”

OZ “Sun’s nearly up, just got to hold her back a few minutes and we can go home”

SPIKE “Good, don’t kill her”

OZ “What?”

SPIKE “She has a soul the potential to do good, don’t kill her OZ”

OZ “ok,ok”

DRUSILLA “Pathetic creature, why do you assume soul equals good, all of the worst human beings alive had souls. I will never join you”

SPIKE “I’m not giving up on you”

DRUSILLA “You assume I’m weak like ANGELUS, that I too will decide to do good to balance out the evil”

SPIKE “Yes”

The sun is rising rapidly

DRUSILLA “Dream” she starts to smoke (burn, not cigarette) and backs up into the jungle “on”

OZ reverts to his human state “You just going to leave her there”

SPIKE “Yes, she’ll come around.

DRUSILLA stands at the edge of the jungle staring at the sun, she puts her hand out and it starts to sizzle, she immediately withdraws it and dissapears into the trees.
