Episode Four: Living Corpse

PREVIOUSLY

- DRUSILLA killing SPIKE
- GUNN “The arrival of SPIKE and his companions in these areas have greatly disturbed the remaining Senior Partners, if he finds the demon who granted him a soul, his status as champion will be sealed, and only a matter of time before he crushes us”

-OZ sits up, he looks pissed, his eyes start to glow and his arms grow, but no more.

-GUNN “Miss, you left something”

The woman turns it’s DRUSILLA, “No I didn’t”

GUNN looks puzzledly at the blindfolded doll in his hand

DRUSILLA “Miss Edith has been naughty, and now she doesn’t get to play my games”

-DEMON “The soul, it has been sealed in place by the powers that be.”

DRUSILLA “NO! Take it out”

DEMON “I cannot, in fact even if I had not given him his soul years ago, he would have been granted one by now, he was destined to be the slayer’s champion”

- SPIKE “We’re not, I’ve let DRUSILLA live too long, it’s time to take her out, and as for GUNN, we’ve got to work out what’s going on there. We’re not leaving till these problems, and whatever new ones arise, are dealt with”

- The Sound byte “We shall return your soul (from “Grave”) plays over the DEMON giving Drusilla her soul, the “previously” section closes with the newly ensouled DRUSILLA laughing insanely

“2002” appears on the screen, it’s night we see SPIKE stumble out of the soul DEMON’s cave. He’s in obvious pain.

BUFFY appears next to him she sarcastically claps her hands “Bravo”

SPIKE turns and looks at her, wipes tears from his eyes.

BUFFY “Spike, you got your soul back!”

SPIKE “Yeah, for you”

BUFFY “Well it’s obvious where we stand now, I love you”

A brief smile flashes over SPIKE’s face, then recognition, “You’re not her, you’re the soul, she told me, how Angel felt this”

BUFFY “You got me there, I’m not her. How you believed I was for even a short time is beyond me”

SPIKE “You look just like her”

BUFFY “Yeah, but why would she travel so far to find you, you tried to rape her.”

SPIKE “I didn’t mean to, I’m different now.”

BUFFY “Because you have a soul, if you’re lucky, Buffy might forgive you, but the others, they took months to get over what  Angelus had done, and Angel’s a hell’uva lot better than you”

SPIKE “But they did eventually”

BUFFY “If I were you I’d stay as far away as possible from those people”

SPIKE “No, you’re wrong, I’ve got to fix this, make things right.”

SPIKE walks off quickly, back towards Sunnydale, leaving BUFFY standing looking very annoyed at the mouth of the cave”

BUFFY “That town’ll kill you. You reckon because you have a soul now it makes a difference.” SPIKE keeps walking, not turning round “Bugger”

It’s day, we once again see the mouth to the soul DEMON’s cave DRUSILLA runs out, grinning madly, as she runs she starts to smoke, suddenly a van drives right up to her, 2 men jump out the back.

GUNN leans out the front window “Get her in  quickly”

The two men grab the now ablaze DRUSILLA and carry her into the back of the van, slam the doors and the van races off.

END SCENE

LAST NIGHT appears on the screen

SPIKE runs through large open doors into a large, hall type room in Burkle Ranch, the room has stairs leading to an upper floor.

SPIKE shouts “FRED, OZ”

FRED and OZ come out of a room on the 2^nd floor and run down the stairs.

FRED “What’s going on SPIKE”

SPIKE “We’ve got trouble”

OZ “What kind of trouble”

SPIKE “Turns out GUNNs not the only old friend we’ve got out here in Africa. DRUSILLA’s here.”

OZ “DRUSILLA!”

FRED “Your sire?”

SPIKE “Yeah, and it doesn’t seem like she likes the new me, the DEMON who restored my soul was working with her, she wanted it taken out”

FRED and OZ both step back a bit.

SPIKE “Oh, c’mon, if I was evil again, do you really think I’d come and give you fair warning.”

FRED “How, if he tried to take it out.”

SPIKE “I don’t know, he said something about how it’s been sealed, that even if I hadn’t come here years ago, the Powers would have restored my soul, wish I’d known that before the torture.”

OZ “And DRUSILLA”

SPIKE “Well, the last I saw her, she was in the cave, so once you two have geared up, that’s where we’re going.”

FRED “Wait, should’nt we discuss this, tell LORNE”

SPIKE “Ok, we’ll have a meeting, but I should tell you my mind will not change easily.

END ACT

ACT TWO

DRUSILLA is sitting in the corner of a dark room, chained to the wall, it looks cellarish, sunlight is coming in through a grate. Her head is at an odd angle, and she has a huge grin on her face. We now see that ANGELUS is talking to her, he is bathed in sunlight from the grate.

ANGELUS “Look what you’ve gone and got yourself into”

He gets no reaction from DRUSILLA, she’s just staring blanky at him, grinning.

ANGELUS “What, the hell is it about this family. Thousands and vampires in the world, and we get stuck with souls.”

DRUSILLA “We’ve all been very naughty”

ANGELUS “I don’t get it, when Darla died the second time, she had a soul, I’ve been cursed against my will repeatedly, that idiot SPIKE, went in search of a soul”

DRUSILLA morphs into vamp face “SPIKE…..”she growls

ANGELUS “Of course”

DRUSILLA “What did they do to him, he was perfect, and they changed him” she starts pulling at her chains.

ANGELUS “It’s so obvious, I don’t know why I hadn’t seen it” he starts to laugh and turns into SPIKE (human form) “I’m your trigger”

DRUSILLA goes wild trying her hardest to rip free from the wall.

We see the sunlight start to burn SPIKE, and he turns to ashes. DRUSILLA flops back down to her original position. ANGELUS appears again “Be seeing you” and blinks out of sight.

END SCENE

We see the exterior of Burkle Ranch, it’s morning.

FRED and OZ are in the main hall, checking their weapons, LORNE walks in.

LORNE “You leaving already”

FRED “SPIKE said 7 sharp, and from the way he said it, I don’t want to argue with him”

LORNE “He did seem on an awfully one tracked mind last night.”

OZ “You worried about that, I mean I kind of thought he had a point, DRUSILLA should be killed, not only is she a vampire, but she’s like SPIKE’s last connection to William the Bloody”

LORNE “I know, I get that.”

FRED “You’re worried because of those few months before I joined Angel Investigations”

LORNE “Exactly, I think SPIKE has a lot more in common with his ol’ grand-sire than he’d like to admit”

OZ “What happened?”

LORNE “A few years ago Wolfram & Hart brought Angel’s sire Darla back from the dead, as a human soul and everything. Angel tried everything to help her, until Wolfram & Hart brought in DRUSILLA to turn her into a vampire again. It’s at this point, Angel goes mental, locking rooms full of lawyers with two vampires mental.”

OZ “He did that, was it ANGELUS”

LORNE “No, it was Angel, but what they’d done to Darla, after he’d come so close to saving her, I’m worried they’ve brought DRUSILLA here hoping for much the same effect.”

FRED “But it all turned out for the best”

LORNE “Eventually, but do we really want that to happen”

SPIKE walks in “C’mon, we’re going”

FRED “Bye LORNE”

FRED, OZ and SPIKE walk out of the front doors and towards the rising sun.

END ACT

ACT THREE

SPIKE, FRED and OZ are walking into the soul DEMON’s cave. The DEMON comes out of the shadows and both FRED and OZ point crossbows at him.

DEMON “Why do you insist in coming here champion, I’ve told you what you came to learn, you will one day take human form.”

SPIKE “I’m here about what happened after that” he signals to OZ and FRED who both  move in closer on the DEMON “where you tried to rip my soul out.”

DEMON “I didn’t realise how strong your link to the powers was, that you were such a key player.”

FRED “But you’re evil, what do you care, surely pissing off the powers is like your job description”

DEMON “I know how to pick your fights, I know not to go after agents of the powers.”

OZ “Because they’d kill you”

DEMON “Yes, they tried, when I tried to remove his soul, the powers attacked me through him, if I’d continued what I was doing I would be dead.”

FRED “Then why shouldn’t we finish the job”

DEMON “I’m of no risk to you, I’m not stupid enough to come after you.”

SPIKE “Then killing you won’t make much difference.”

DEMON “And I know what’s become of your sire.”

SPIKE “Talk”

DEMON “But, I thought I was worthless to you.”

FRED pushes the crossbow right up against his chest “Talk”

DEMON “You swear you’re going to kill her, yet I feel my information would change your mind”

SPIKE “Why, ask these two, I’m pretty determined to kill her”

OZ “He’s not kidding”

The DEMON laughs, FRED pushes the crossbow a little harder against him.

DEMON “As you might guess, I was pretty pissed off at nearly getting killed. I wanted revenge”

SPIKE “Understood”

DEMON “It’s just I happen to agree with gypsy methods of revenge.” The DEMON starts to laugh as it dawns on the group what he means.

SPIKE “Kill him” then runs out of the cave, he sees the tyre tracks, and follows them.

END SCENE

DRUSILLA is in her cellar, it’s night. GUNN comes in.

GUNN “Good evening DRUSILLA”

DRUSILLA sits there doing nothing, she giggles at nothing in particular.

GUNN “We know what’s troubling you. You went to see the DEMON and instead of doing what he was told, he restored your soul.”

DRUSILLA turns and stares blankly at GUNN, she laughs, “You, you don’t fit”

GUNN looks at DRUSILLA, thinking she’s just talking crazy talk.

DRUSILLA “You don’t fit, whoever you are, you’re not the soul for that body.” Then she slumps back down.

GUNN “We can help you, we can restore you. I think it’s safe to say you’re not an agent of the powers.”

END SCENE

FRED and OZ walk out of the cave, both look shaken. They have blood on their hands.

FRED “We shouldn’t have done that”

OZ “He’s the boss”

FRED “It doesn’t matter, we shouldn’t have killed him in cold blood, he was harmless.”

OZ “To us maybe, but to others”

FRED “I dunno, maybe SPIKE was right telling us to kill him, it just doesn’t fell right.”

OZ “I think SPIKE has a lot more on his mind than one demon”

FRED “I know, I’ve never met this DRUSILLA, but I’ve heard she’s pretty insane. And each time a vampire has been given a soul, they’ve gone at least temporarily insane, God knows how she’ll take it.”

OZ “That’s if SPIKE lets her, he might think she’s better off dead”

FRED “But could SPIKE do that, kill someone who looks like her, but now has more in common with an innocent girl ANGELUS killed 200 years ago.”

END ACT

ACT FOUR

GUNN is still in the cellar, a man in camouflage comes and whispers in his ear.

GUNN (whispering) “Dead, you sure” (speaking) DRUSILLA it seems like we might have a problem.” He walks right up to her “Seems your friend SPIKE has taken our chance of curing you”

At the mention of SPIKE’s name DRUSILLA goes into vamp face, we see ANGELUS behind GUNN.

ANGELUS “Showtime!”

DRUSILLA rips the chains out of the wall, throws GUNN against a wall and runs out the room.

END SCENE

DRUSILLA is in the DEMON’s cave looking at the dead DEMON.

DRUSILLA “He deserved it”

ANGELUS “That he did.”

DRUSILLA “I hate what he’s become, he was perfect”

ANGELUS “Who?”

DRUSILLA “SPIKE”

ANGELUS “Then what do you think you should do”

DRUSILLA “Kill him”

ANGELUS “Exactly”

DRUSILLA “Not just him, kill what made him like he is, kill them all, the council, the slayer, all of them!”
