Purrs and welcome! I'm Sassy's Meowmie and I will be doing this page. Hopefully you have learned several things
from Sassy are preparing to take "Fluffy" and "Fido" to the Vet! I just wanted to add this
page to show you how a lot of people view pets as their property and can be disposed of just as easily as through
a can into the trash. These are some of the excuses people give for wanting to get rid of their animals and my
answers to them.
Excuse 1: Well, my boyfriend doesn't like cats/dogs.
Answer 1: So, get another boyfriend.
Excuse 2: We remodeled and my pet doesn't match the colors.
Answer 2: You've got to be joking! Your right. Give me the pet because you are too shallow to have the privilege of being owned by one.
Excuse 3: We're moving and can't take Fluffy/Fido along.
Answer 3: Didn't you think of this before you brought home Fluffy/Fido? Why not consider his feelings instead of your own!
Excuse 4: We want another pet just like Fluffy/Fido.
Answer: Breeding two purebred animals rarely results in kittens/puppies that are exactly like one of the parents.
With mixed breeds, it is virtually impossible to have kittens/puppies that are exactly like one of the parents.
Excuse 5: I'm allergic to Fluffy/Fido.
Answer 5: They do have a lot of wonderful medications out now to help ease the allergies.
Excuse 6: This cat/dog keeps picking on my children.
Answer 6: I think you'd better check to see that your children aren't picking on the cat/dog.
Excuse 7: This stupid cat/dog keeps having kittens/puppies.
Answer 7: This one is way too easy! Have them spayed/neutered and then you won't have to worry about it.
Excuse 8: My apartment doesn't allow pets.
Answer 8: If you got the animal while living in the apartment then what made you think they were going to change their minds and suddenly allow you to have Fluffy/Fido? If your just getting ready to move into the apartment, my advice would be to look for another apartment that allows pets.
Excuse 9: Fluffy/Fido shed too much.
Answer 9: Try brushing them daily. It's also a wonderful way to spend quality time with your animal. I've also found that brushing my cat reduces my stress levels and anger. It's relaxing for you and for the cat/dog.
Excuse 10: Fluffy/Fido won't listen to me when I tell him/her no.
Answer 10: There are many ways to discipline a pet (NO HITTING!!!). Have you tried them all? Try use a can filled with coins, a newspaper (hit the table, not the animal), use a spray bottle filled with water, or use an unattractive odor (like citrus, you can find these in the pet stores) to deter the pets from going near things that you don't want them around.
I'm sorry if I sound hateful but these excuses are ridiculous! I know a lot of you are saying "come on, its just a cat/dog" but I will strongly disagree with that. Sassy isn't just a cat to me. She is my child and just as important as a child would be. Her happiness is my main priority. I do understand that sometimes you do have to get rid of a family pet but please think carefully before doing it. Most of the excuses above can be worked out if you think about them. When you get a pet, you should consider the future of that pet. After all, most pets live at least 15 years and many live a lot longer. I hope this has helped.
