July 30 & 31, 2002 - Touring the
Sri Lankan South Western Coast
On the road to Galle we passed by the the warm sunny beaches of Bentota, Hikkaduwa, Ahungalla and Unawatuna.  We spent a good part of the day getting to and from Galle, a former Dutch strong-hold during the colonial period.  The 300 year old Galle Dutch fort and Galle lighthouse were both terrific.
Spent the night at a wonderful hotel in Bentota,
Hotel Serendib. Check out the pics of Sharon riding an elephant on the beach at that hotel!  Won a cute elephant figurine playing bingo at the hotel lounge.  Guess what I named it- Bingo!!

Unawatuna is located just south of Galle and is a small, secluded beach community offering tourists the opportunity to escape to a peaceful, tropical paradise!
