*Andrew Bilinski-

"Carnival Wars" is a very nice, quiet, acoustic song.

There's a lot of open space here to let the song stretch out. That open space is what most pop songwriters tend to stay away from for some dumb reason, and it annoys me, because it can be an awful lot more effective than most of the space-filling production tricks that they end up pulling instead. Andrew Bilinski seems to get that, as he's letting the song breathe quite a bit here.

While I'm listing Microphones & Moonboots as "similar artists" above, that's not really true, since "Carnival Wars" isn't a lo-fi recording. But there is the same honesty and originality here that those other two groups possess, so it's still at least partially appropriate.

Nice song, if you like slow, quiet acoustic pop songs. Definitely better than most of what we get here.

The most exciting moment of Wilmingtonite Andy Bilinski’s set came when he had to change his shirt on stage (he came out wearing a much-too-small Cory Branan girlie tee) and all the girls in the house screamed at his buff surfer’s build. But Bilinski is one of those sensitive singer-songwriters who don’t care about looks or image. His quiet, downcast songs are all moody, introspective, daunting affairs, accompanied by his mellow vocals and strummed acoustic guitar. At least half a dozen Wilmington locals told me that he’s considered one of the rising young stars of their local scene, and his demo EP certainly bears that out. It would be nice if he could just lighten up a bit, since pretty much everything he did had the same overall tone, tempo, and chord changes.

** ATLAS OF THE EARTH s/t (KAW)
Glasgow band making excellent introspective lo-fi indiepop. Has shades of Shy Rights Movement (another KAW band) and some of the more melancholic music on Sarah (From blissaquamarine.net)
