The 3 Lords Of Makai (Demon World)

Raizen - Believed to be the strongest Demon in Makai.  He is also Yusuke's father in a sense.  A long time ago, he hunted and ate humans for a living.  One night, the villagers fought back and injured him.  To hide himself, he went to this house.  There, he was introduced to this mysterious woman.  He threatened to eat her but she remained calm.  She even offered to heal his wounds.  He was moved by the gesture and changed his heart forever.  They made love and he left.  The result was Yusuke. (Note: that happened hundred years ago before Yusuke's parents were born.) From that day on, he never ate another human being again.

Mukuro - The only female Class S demon in Makai.  She's the ruler of the Dark Clan country od Makai.   A woman with a dark past.  As a child, she was sold to a slave trader.  This trader molested Mukuro every chance he gets.  She wanted to escape from the grasp of the trader.  With the magical shackles, that was impossible.  The only thing she could do was to make the trader not want her.  So she pour some sulphuric acid on her face and body.  The trader threw her out of the ship.  She was a ruthless devil until she received a tear gem from another devil.  The tear gem previously belonged to Hiei.  It made her calm down from her rage.

She sent Hiei an invitation to go back to Makai.  There Hiei battled an old friend who became a right hand of Mukuro.  When Hiei was killed in the tournament, she rejuvinated him through a chamber.  At that moment, she confessed her feelings to Hiei.  Her first appearance on the show, she wore a mask.  Nobody knows about her gender until she removed the mask.  They were very much surprised to see an Class S woman.

Yomi - Another Class S demon.  He used to be a subordinate of Youko Kurama.  When he was young, Yomi was reckless and had a lust for blood.  He enjoyed killing demons who got in his way.  During one of their missions, he was confronted by a winged demon that killed his comrades.  He lost his eyesight to the demon and he barely survived. When he invited Kurama to Makai, he was surprised to find out that the winged demon that stole his eyesight was ordered by  Kurama himself.  Instead of being mad, he was glad that Kurama did it.  If for wasn't for Kurama, he wouldn't be this strong.  As for the winged demon, Yomi showed no mercy.  He tortured and dismembered the demon while he was still alive.

Others

Botan -  the grim reaper of the series.  She brought Yusuke to Reikai for his revival and the one who gave Yusuke his job as a spiritual detective.  She looks like a schoolgirl than a stereotypical grim reaper.  Botan helped the gang on their missions.  She's kind of  ignorant and ditzy.

Koenma - the gang's boss and the son of Lord Enma.  A baby with a pacifier.  He likes to use his middle finger whenever he is angry.  Despite his appearance, he is actually older (hundreds and hundred years older)  He has another form.  Whenever he leaves his office, he "grows" up but he still retains his pacifier.  He does this because don't want people laughing at him.  His pacifier serves a purpose.  It stores much needed energy for future use.  He can also create a shield to entrapped any demons who posed a threat.

Shigure - a shaman.  He was the one who implanted the jagan (Hiei's third eye) on Hiei's forehead so he can find his lost pearl and Koorime.  He told Hiei not to reveal his true identity to his sister for some unknown reason.  Shigure became the right hand of Mukuro before Hiei received his invitation from Mukuro herself.  They were forced to fight each other so Mukuro can select a new right hand.  Shigure killed Hiei by cutting his right arm off and slicing his stomach open.  However, Shigure lost his head to Hiei before he killed Hiei.  He was revived by Mukuro but he met his end by the hands of Kurama during another tournament for the position to be the ruler of Makai.

Lord Enma - Hell's judge.  He has the power to decide which human souls would go to Hell.  He is a really, really big man.  In the show, he only appeared briefly and most put all the work to his son Koenma while he was away for a business trip.  In the Sensui saga, he ordered his special team to kill Yusuke because he became a demon when he was revived for the second time.

Shizuru - she's Kuwabara's older sister.  They look nothing alike.  She beats up her brother whenever he acts stupid.  Despite this, she wanted Kuwabara to get an education and come home safe from battles.  She's a chain smoker and a drinker.  She has psychic abilities like her brother.  Don't piss her off and don't even think of taking her cigarette from her mouth.  She'll turn berserk!

Yukina - Hiei's twin sister and also Kuwabara's love interest.  She's an ice demon and Hiei is a fire demon.  Result of a forbidden affair between their mother and a fire demon.  She left the village of Koorime and seeked his older brother.   Her powers is the elemental cold and produce pearls from her tears.  She was saved by Yusuke and the gang from an evil merchant who held her captive so she could produce pearls.  When Hiei saw her, he didn't mention to her that he was her brother that she had been looking for (bargain for the third eye), only as a friend.

Keiko - Yusuke's crush.  Her and Yusuke were best friends since childhood.  No matter what Yusuke was doing (doing really bad things), she never left his side.  She gives him moral support during battles.   She's also the one that revived Yusuke from death.  She comforts him after he exhausted his powers during tournaments. When Yusuke promised her that they will get married, she waiting for him to return from Makai for 3 years.  At that time span, Keiko was in college.  She almost gave up waiting on him when suddenly Yusuke appeared.  They got married and owned a business.

Genkai -Yusuke's master and the one who trained to use his powers.  She was feared by most demons because of the power she wielded.  She held a trial on her temple so the one who passed the test will receive her power and techniques.  She trained Yusuke to harness his full potential and strengthen Yusuke's spiritual powers.  Her powers kept her young when she reserved it.  But when she uses it, she becomes old again. She had a relationship with Toguro Ottoto.  Ironically, she was killed by Toguro during the tournament

Pu - a weird looking bird-like creature that uses Yusuke's head as its perch.  It was given to Yusuke as an egg by Koenma.  Both Pu and Yusuke are connect to each other.  When Yusuke gets hurt, Puu feels the pain.  Later in the story, when Yusuke is revived as a demon, Puu turns into a giant phoenix.

Atsuko - Yusuke's mother.  She had him when she was 14 years old.  She took care of Yusuke by herself.  She indulge herself with alcohol and most of time she's either very drunk or passed out most of the time.  However, she gave Yusuke tough love and she cared for him.

Shura - Yomi's son produced by a machine.  His purpose for his creation was to defeat Yusuke in the tournament.  However, he faced his father and was defeated.  Yomi was proud of his son's efforts and trained him after the tournament.

Majin Yusuke - when he was killed the second time, he was reborn as Class S demon.  His demon blood was finally awaken.  His hair grew very long (like Radditz) and he had marks all over his body.  He easily beaten Sensui when he was taken over by Raizen's spirit.  However, he was targeted by Enma because of his enormous power might pose a threat to Ningenkai and was hunted by Enma's special team.  Koenma saved him by disobeying his father's order and put him to safety with Pu's help.

Majin Hiei - when he uses his jagan, his entire body becomes green and eyes appear all over his body.  It makes him stronger but it drains his spiritual energy.  He first used this form when he fought Yusuke during the first parts of the series.  It acts as an amplifier and it strengthens his powers.  He was forced to use this form in the second movie when he was controlled by Reiko.

Youko Kurama - the original form of Kurama. A fox demon.  He has about 9 tails.  His age is about 400 years old.  A ruthless and unmerciful thief.  He stole very valuable treasures from kingdoms of Makai until he was hunted by an entity known as the Hunter.  He was shot and he needed to escape.  To preserve himself, he stumbled upon Ningenkai and his eyes noticed this woman who was having a child.  He fled his old body and his spirit took over the fetus. He first appeared on the show when he was fighting Uraurashima during the Ankoku Bujutsukai (tournament).  He planned to make Kurama a helpless child but instead, Kurama reverted back to his original form.  The second time was when Yusuke died at the hands of Sensui, he transformed out of anger.  Finally, he used his original form when he fought Shigure.  Then he reverted back to his human form so he could turn his back on his past.
