Mechannibals

Large spheroid, spider-like robots who eat mechanical lifeforms.

Comic Bio (US):

At Grand Central Space Station, Landmine and Cloudburst -- disguised in their Pretender shells -- find themselves at the center of a bar brawl, which started when Landmine stood up for the rights of a mechanoid Chromite to have a drink. During the scuffle, the Chromite is tossed out of an airlock, and disappears.

After leaving the bar, the Autobots are approached by two humanoid beings, who offer to sell them the microchips they need in exchange for energon cubes. They split up after an initial deal is negotiated; the Autobots are then laughed at by a half-drunk human named Berko, who warns that his partner Sky Lynx disappeared after dealing with the humanoids. Meanwhile, out of sight, the two humanoids -- Hi-Test and Throttle -- return to their "ship," Dreadwing.

Sending their Pretender shells ahead, Landmine and Cloudburst attend the final meeting to close the deal, and Landmine insists that they give their energon directly to the chips' provider. They are led to a strange ship, where they meet the Mechannibals. As the Autobots watch, the Chromite from the bar is brought out and quickly eaten alive. Then Sky Lynx is brought out, to serve as the main course. Landmine's robot form bursts into the room; he quickly fights through the Mechannibals and frees Sky Lynx, who escapes. Landmine then detonates the energon payment, and the flash blinds the Mechannibals. During the confusion, he and Cloudburst reenter their shells.

Back at the station, the Autobots reveal their identities to Berko and tell him that Sky Lynx is free, unaware that Hi-Test and Throttle are eavesdropping. As a gesture of friendship, the Pretenders try to settle Berko's bill at the bar. But the bartender, paid off by the Decepticons, ejects them out of the airlock instead. Floating helplessly in space, the Autobots are ambushed by Dreadwing, and black out.

When Landmine and Cloudburst finally awaken, they find themselves back in the Mechannibals' lair. There, Landmine and Cloudburst learn that the microchips they purchased were made from the remains of the Mechannibals' previous victims. Though the Mechannibals want to eat the Autobots, Cloudburst forestalls their execution by describing how much tastier he and Landmine could be if served with the proper adornments and relishes. The Mechannibals agree; keeping Berko as a hostage, they send the Autobots to a nearby world called Femax to get the ingredients. As the Autobots leave, they are secretly followed by Dreadwing, who is himself secretly followed by Sky Lynx. As the Autobots return to the Mechannibals, they are ambushed by Dreadwind and Darkwing -- who are then knocked out by Sky Lynx.

Returning to the Mechannibals' ship, the Autobot suggest that the Mechannibals free themselves, Berko, and their "recycled" victims, in exchange for Sky Lynx sparing Hi-Test and Throttle. Not wanting to lose their "spotters," the Mechannibals agree. As the Autobots leave for the Ark, they reveal that Hi-Test and Throttle combined with robots, leaving the enraged and hungry Mechannibals to pursue the Decepticons.

The Mechannibals continued to pursue the duo, who were eventually hired by Megatron to help him in his revenge plan. They thought they had gotten rid of the Mechannibals, but outside of Megatron's Cybertron base the Mechannibals were seen feasting on a Decepticon.
